1          Apologies

MOVED by Member A Manoa, seconded by Member R Autagavaia:  

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         accept the apologies from Councillor Arthur Anae and Member ‘Ofeina Manuel-Barbarich for absence.

2          Declaration of Interest

 

Members are reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

 

Tunumafono Ava Fa’amoe is involved with the Pacific Injury Prevention Aukilana.

Sefita Hao’uli is involved with pre-schools and COMET Auckland.

Sam Sefuiva is involved with the Pacific language schools and COMET Auckland.

Aiolupotea Sina Aiolupotea-aiono is a trustee of COMET Auckland.

 

3          Confirmation of Minutes

MOVED by Member S Sefuiva, seconded by Deputy Chairperson S Hao'uli:  

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Wednesday, 25 February 2015, as a true and correct record with the following additions to item 12: Members’ Report .

b)        thank Member Leilani Tamu for her presentation regarding the Leataata Tupulaga A‘oga Pasifika Community Hub Initiative;

c)         agree to invite a representative from Leataata Tupulaga A‘oga to present to the panel at the April 2015 meeting.

d)        thank Members Leilani Tamu and Richard Pamatatau for their presentation regarding the Arts and Culture Strategic Action and Delivery Plans.

e)         agree that the panel writes a formal letter to Maree Mills, the Project Leader for the Arts and Culture Strategic Action plan, to highlight areas of concern in the finalised strategy where the views of the Pacific Arts community have not been adequately addressed and seek assurances that the advice and interests of the Pacific arts community will be duly taken into account in the development of the final Delivery Plan document.

a)      agree to adjourn the meeting to go into a workshop.

The meeting adjourned from 4.37pm and reconvened at 5.20pm to workshop with the Mayor.

West Auckland Pasefika hub proposal - Faamalua Tipi

MOVED by Member L Tamu, seconded by Member R Autagavaia:  

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      thank Tapuai Faamalua Tipi, Leata Tipi and Lemalu Herman Retzlaffe for their presentation on the West Auckland Pasefika hub proposal.

b)      provide a letter in support of the proposal of the West Auckland Pasefika hub and highlight the following:

i)       seek the support of the Henderson-Massey Local Board to support the extension of the lease;

ii)      seek the support of the Henderson-Massey Local Board to support the group’s future plan;

iii)     seek the support of the Henderson-Massey Local Board to prioritise the refurbishment of the hall;

c)      forward the resolutions to the Henderson-Massey Local Board and the Mayor’s office.

MOVED by Member T Finau, seconded by Member T Funaki:  

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      thank Sandy Harrop, Chairperson of Pasifika Injury Prevention Aukilana for her attendance and presentation.

b)      endorse the work of the Guiding Coalition for Injury Prevention and Pasifika Injury Prevention Aukilana

c)      recommend to the appropriate senior staff, Committee and all Local Boards to continue to work in partnership with Pasifika Injury Prevention Aukilana and explore and sustain further opportunities to address injury and death for Auckland’s Pacific people.

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      thank Susan Warren, Chief Executive from COMET Auckland for her attendance and presentation.

b)      express support for COMET Auckland in the Panel’s Long-term Plan (LTP) submission and also note the Panel’s concern of the Council’s funding cut of 43% to COMET Auckland.

Long-term Plan 2015-2025: Update on 'Have Your Say' Event and Panel Feedback

MOVED by Member A Fa'amoe , seconded by Member L Tamu:  

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      receive the update regarding the Long-term Plan 2015-2025 consultation and provide feedback on the key topics raised at the Pacific ’Have Your Say’ event of 19 February 2015.

b)      request that the Lead Officer and Principal Advisor Panels compile the panel’s feedback to be submitted to council by 8 April 2015.

c)      agree that the member Leilani Tamu and member Sefita Hao’uli will provide the panel’s feedback to the governing body at the Budget Committee meeting of 14 April 2015.

·   Monday 9 March - Panel Chairs meeting with the Principal Advisor and advisors – re Summit discussions

·   Saturday 14 March - Pasifika Festival walkabout with Mayor Brown, PPAP members Sefuiva and Pamatatau, and Local Board representatives

·   Wed 18 and 19 March - Made a presentation re PPAP to the UNESCO International Dialogue and Workshop on Social Inclusion: Good Policies and Practises for Disabled People in Asia and the Pacific. 

·   Wed 25 March - Panel Chairs meeting with Mayor, then pre agenda setting meeting with officers

·   Tues 31 March - Meeting with Councillor Filipaina re panel the Southern Initiative representation.
