1          Welcome

 

Chairperson Mulholland opened the meeting and welcomed everyone present.

Pepe Sapolu Reweti gave a Whakatauki.

 

2          Apologies

 

There were no apologies.

 

3          Declaration of Interest

Members are reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

Specifically members are asked to identify any new interests they have not previously disclosed, an interest that might be considered as a conflict of interest with a matter on the agenda.

6          Acknowledgements

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson S Zhu, seconded by Member D Macdonald:  

That the Whau Local Board:

a)         acknowledge the passing of former Kelston Boys High School student and former Chiefs and All Black, Sione Lauaki who was laid to rest last Saturday in a public service at the Waikumete Cemetery.

7          Ward Councillors update

Councillor Clow updated the board on matters being addressed by the Governing Body including upcoming Annual Plan consultation and adoption and an upcoming report coming to Planning Committee on Avondale’s development status by Panuku Auckland.

Deputation - Creative Souls Project update on Whau Pacific Festival

 

Malcolm and Deahne Lakatani from the Creative Souls Project made a presentation giving an update on the success of Whau Pacific Festival 2016 to the Whau Local Board.

a)      receive the deputation from Malcolm and Deahne Lakatani of the Creative Souls Project on the success of Whau Pacific Festival 2016 and thank them for the presentation.

Deputation - Avondale-Waterview Historical Society

 

Lisa Truttman from the Avondale-Waterview Historical Society made a presentation introducing the organisation to the local board and what they have done over the past fifteen years in the community, and examples of heritage awareness projects they are advocating.

Deputation - Avondale Community Action 2017 events programme

 

Silvia Spieksma and Michelle Ardern from Avondale Community Action made a presentation on their events programme for 2017. A copy of their feedback on Whau Local Board Plan was tabled.

A copy of presentation and the tabled document have been filed on file copy of minutes and can be viewed on Auckland Council website.

 

Member D Whitley left the meeting at 7.06 pm.

Deputation - Te Pou Theatre

 

Amber Curreen and Tainui Tukiwaho from Te Pou Theatre made a verbal presentation introducing the Te Pou theatre to the local board and shared the work they are currently doing and future plans.

 

Member D Whitley returned to the meeting at 7.11 pm.

New community lease to EcoMatters Environment Trust, 36 Portage Road, New Lynn

 

Resolution number WH/2017/8

MOVED by Member T Matafai, seconded by Member C Farmer:  

That the Whau Local Board:

a)      approve a new community lease to EcoMatters Environment Trust for a portion of land (18m² more or less) at Olympic Park, 36 Portage Road, New Lynn (Attachment A) on the following terms and conditions:

i)       Term:  from 22 February 2017 until 30 November 2024 with one 10-year right of renewal;

ii)      Rent:  $1.00 plus GST per annum if requested;

iii)     EcoMatters Environment Trust Community Outcomes Plan as approved be attached to the lease document (Attachment B).

b)      approve all other terms and conditions in accordance with the Auckland Council Community Occupancy Guidelines July 2012 and the Reserves Act 1977.
