Members are reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

3 Confirmation of Minutes

Auckland Libraries - Discussion with Disability Strategic Advisory Panel |

Allison Dobbie, Greg Morgan and Abigael Vogt from Auckland Libraries gave a presentation on what they have done and what they are planning to do for people with disabilities, a copy has been placed on the file copy of the minutes and will be available on the Auckland Council website.
Members congratulated Auckland Libraries for their innovative steps to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

David Nelson and Joshua Hyland from Auckland Transport gave a presentation on the new Otahuhu Bus Train Interchange, a copy has been placed on the file copy of the minutes and will be available on the Auckland Council website.
Members raised questions and provided feedback to the staff.

Vivian Naylor gave a verbal presentation and tabled documents provided by the Manager Building Control regarding Building Seismic Performance Consultation, a copy has been placed on the file copy of the minutes and will be available on the Auckland Council website.
Members felt that they did not have sufficient information particularly around accessibility audits of Council owned buildings and framed an additional recommendation accordingly.

Response to questions for Auckland Council re: Challenges facing Aucklanders with disabilities |

Resolution number DIS/2013/53 MOVED by Chairperson H Hickey, seconded by Member T O'Neill: That the Disability Strategic Advisory Panel: a) receive the Chief Executive’s response to questions submitted by the Disability Strategic Advisory Panel in Appendix 2 of the report “Challenges facing Aucklanders with disabilities requiring strategic direction” and commend Council on its approach to accessibility and the action they have taken. |

Work Plan suggestions relating to the submission on the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan |
|
Members discussed the paper submitted by Don McKenzie and it was suggested that the Research Investigations and Monitoring Unit be approached regarding census information that they’re analysing. It was also felt that relevant staff should meet with Don to discuss some of his ideas around a submission on the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan(PAUP). Don questioned whether a submission on the PAUP was appropriate and it was suggested that he meet with Councillor Sharon Stewart to provide assistance in promoting DSAP’s ideas.

Ezekiel Robson referred to the new rail network for South Auckland and the possibility that some stations may be closed even though frequencies may be improved in some cases.

Don McKenzie referred to the Human Rights Amendment Bill with regard to strengthening the rights of the Disability Commissioner – submissions were due by 19 December 2013.
Martine Abel referred to the Local Elections Review being undertaken by Democracy Services – submissions were due by 20 December 2013.
