Prof. Fred Seymour - Devonport - ONZM for services to child mental health and social services after decades of work as Director of the Leslie Centre for Child and Family Therapy Services. In the late 1990s he served as the President and Vice-President of the New Zealand Psychological Society and is considered and academic and governmental expert in this field, having served years on government advisory boards and university research papers. Norah Fryer - Devonport - QSM for services to early childhood education after more than 40 years working in her field and establishing a centre for intellectually handicapped children. More than a decade of her career was teaching and developing the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, and she even now teaches young educators in her field of expertise. Jeffrey Olsen - Hauraki - ONZM for services to the Customs Service and Sport. His impressive 47 year career as a prosecutions officer for Customs has put him in the front lines of protecting our country's ecological and environmental habitat. Most of us will know him as Jeff, the diligent and committed founder of two of our proudest sporting facilities, the NSEC and the North Harbour Stadium. Many may not be aware, although anyone who has sat next to him at a Breakers game may suspect, he is a major supporter of basketball. He has contributed many hours and dollars to NZ Basketball through his efforts as a coach and fundraiser. Ella Yelich-O'Connor (Lorde) - Devonport – This is not the first time that the Board has acknowledged Ella for her extraordinary achievements, but this is certainly her biggest achievement so far. In winning two Grammys; one for “Best Pop Solo Performance”, and another jointly with Joel Little for “Song of the Year”, she has become the third youngest ever recipient of the music industry’s top gong and is one of a handful of New Zealanders to achieve this accolade. |
