Deputy Chairperson JC Cleave led the meeting in a karakia.
A minute’s silence was observed for Reef Paton, Will Meecham and Garth Dalton who recently passed away.

3 Declaration of Interest
Chairperson SP Daly declared an interest in respect of the funding request from Envirokiwi Ltd for the Zero Waste events kit and Waste Minimisation visitor pamphlets at item 15 b) – Community group and agency reports.
Member JJ Gilbert declared an interest in respect of the funding of the Kaitoke fire site wildlife monitoring at item 13 c).

Resolution number GBESP/2014/29 MOVED by Member SP Daly, seconded by Member CA Spence: That the Great Barrier Environment Committee: a) Receives the Proposed 2014/2015 Environment Work Programme report. b) Agrees to fund the following projects from the 2014/2015 budget line for biosecurity pest management programmes.
c) Agrees to fund the following projects from the 2014/2015 budget line for environmental enhancement.
d) Agrees to allocate funds from its discretionary SLIPs opex budget to enable the island ecology conversations to commence this financial year. e) Delegates authority to the Committee Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson in consultation with other members to approve work programme budget if decisions are required before the next scheduled November 2014 Committee meeting. f) Thanks Emma Joyce, Relationship Advisor of Infrastructure and Environmental Services and Laura Buckthought, Scientist (Aquatic Chemistry), RIMU for their attendance and presentation on the Proposed 2014/2015 Environment Work Programme report. |

Joanne O’Reilly, Waste Minimisation Educator, GBI was in attendance to present to the Great Barrier Environment Committee in respect to the Waste Minimisation Education role update and the funding request for the Zero Waste events kit and Waste Minimisation visitor pamphlets.

Resolution number GBESP/2014/30 MOVED by Member JC Cleave, seconded by Member IM Fordham: That the Great Barrier Environment Committee: a) Receives the Waste Minimisation Education role update, KAKA comments September 2014 and the Sea Change August 2014 newsletter. b) Agrees to fund a Zero Waste events kit at a cost of $1978.50 and Waste Minimisation visitor pamphlets at a cost of $1,539.50 to be paid from the discretionary SLIPs opex budget to be managed by the Great Barrier Island’s Waste Minimisation Educator position holder. c) Receives the information on the Hauraki Gulf Forum’s annual seminar – “On the Horizon: Hauraki Gulf marine park seminar”. d) Approves the attendance of the Committee Chairperson SP Daly, Deputy Chairperson JC Cleave and Board Members JJ Gilbert and CA Spence at the On the Horizon: Hauraki Gulf marine park seminar to be held on Monday, 20 October 2014 at the Auckland Museum as the theme is a key project and outcome for the board as outlined in its local board plan. Tickets to the symposium is $33 per participant (ticket price includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, and booking fee for online and phone sales) and further travel and accommodation costs will be incurred by attendance. e) Thanks Joanne O’Reilly, Waste Minimisation Educator, GBI for her attendance and presentation on the Waste Minimisation Education role update and the funding request for the Zero Waste events kit and Waste Minimisation visitor pamphlets. f) Thanks Brigid Graney for her excellent work and contribution for the Barrier community and wishes her well for the future. |
