a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 9 June 2014 as a true and correct record.

2014 State of the Environment Report

 

A presentation was given in support of the item.

A copy of the presentation is attached to the official file copy of these minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website.

 

Member L Furneaux entered the meeting 1:25pm.

Resolution number HGF/2014/14

MOVED by Cr C Fletcher, seconded by Cr C Darby:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      thank the authors and contributors for the report.

b)      approve the Hauraki Gulf / Tkapa Moana, Te Moananui a Toi State of the Environment Report 2014 report for publication.

c)      encourage communication of its findings, in popular summary, printed and web-friendly forms, a public launch, and the October 20 Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Seminar.

d)      note with concern the continuing gap between current state and desired state and the potential for this to widen.

e)      re-affirm the need for focus and action in the REMAK areas, identified in 2012 as elements likely to be associated with a successful management response and ask agencies to regularly report progress in these areas to the forum.

f)       explore new tools and frameworks that identify and improve environmental, economic, social and cultural goals.

g)      commend the report for consideration by the Sea Change - Tai Timu Tai Pari Stakeholder Working Group, constituent party governance entities including affected local/community boards, and other key stakeholders.

Implementing the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau Redress Act 2014

 

Ms Meg Poutasi and Mr Paul Majurey gave a presentation in support of the item.  A copy of the presentation was attached to the published agenda.

Mr Rod Oram gave a presentation in support of the item.

Hauraki Gulf Forum Manager's Report

 

Cr C Darby left the meeting 3:47pm.

 

Resolution number HGF/2014/17

MOVED by Mayor J Tregidga, seconded by Cr J Thomas:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      note the 2014 Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Seminar will be held on 20 October 2014 and that members advise the Hauraki Gulf Forum Manager if they wish to attend, to secure seating.

b)      confirm the membership of a three person sub-committee of Mayor John Tregidga, Ms Liane Ngamane, and Ms Pauline Kingi, to consider candidates for the second year of the Holdaway Award.

Community Shellfish Monitoring Programme Annual Report 2013-2014

 

Discussion ensued on the report. Cr B Cashmore raised the issue of shellfish policing, and the overharvesting of shellfish in the area (ie Kawakawa Bay).

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      note the continued success and value of the programme and acknowledge the coordinator and sponsoring agencies for their support.

There was no consideration of extraordinary items.

 

 

Secretarial note:          The meeting discussed the possibility of an offsite meeting being scheduled                                   in early 2015.
