That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         accept the apologies from Ms Lucy Steel, Cr Mike Lee, Moana Tamaariki-Pohe, Steve Halley, and  Mr Paul Majurey for absence.

3          Confirmation of Minutes

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 8 December 2014 as a true and correct record.

Progress report on addressing Bryde's whale ship strike

 

Mr Terrence Hohneck entered the meeting at 1.41pm.

Cr CE Fletcher retired from the meeting at 2.08 pm.

 

PowerPoint presentations were given by Dr Rochelle Constantine, Auckland University, Mr Matt Ball, Ports of Auckland, and Mr Matt Collis, International Fund for Animal Welfare. Matt Collis tabled a further document in support of this item.

Resolution number HGF/2015/3

MOVED by Cr P Buckley, seconded by Cr R McGuire:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      acknowledge the significant progress made by agencies and the collaborative working group on these issues since 2010

b)      acknowledge particularly the contributions of Dr Rochelle Constantine, Mr Matt Ball and Mr Matt Collis and their respective institutions on these matters

c)      note the critical importance of ship speed, passage planning and international notification of protection measures as components of an effective response

d)      urge further discussion and evaluation to enable effective speed restriction measures to be advanced as soon as possible

e)      urge notification of the protocol to the IMO to enable the voluntary speed restriction to appear in international manuals and nautical charts

f)       note approval by the Ministry of Transport for submission of notification papers to the International Maritime Organisation’s March 2016 sub-committee meeting is required before the end of this year        

g)      request updates on progress.

MOVED by Cr P Buckley, seconded by Deputy Chair L Ngamane:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      support the initiation of a review of the Forum’s work

b)      allocate time and resources to the task and request that a report be prepared for presentation to the Forum in June 2015.

Pest Free Hauraki Gulf Marine Park – Is The Vision Realistic And Can We Realise It?

Status of Western Firth of Thames Spat Catching applications after 1 January 2015

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)      receive the Status of Western Firth of Thames Spat Catching applications after 1 January 2015 report

b)      request a further report on any spat catching or mussel farming applications in the Firth of Thames before council.

A document was tabled by Ms J Gilbert, Great Barrier Local Board, entitled ‘NZ Sport Fishing Council submission on the review of Rock Lobster sustainability measures for 1 April 2014’.
