That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)         accept the apology from members Sally Hughes, Allan Matson and Sherry Reynolds for absence.

2          Declaration of Interest

 

Member Dave Veart declared an interest in Item 7 - Public input - Presentation on the Ihumatao Special Housing Area.

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Tuesday, 5 May 2015, as a true and correct record.

Presentation on the Property Department’s strategy to seek adaptive reuse opportunities for historic toilets.

MOVED by Member B Rayner, seconded by Member A McEwan:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)      thank Ian Reid, Strategic Development Manager, Property Department, for his presentation to the Heritage Advisory Panel on the Property Department’s strategy to seek adaptive reuse opportunities for historic toilets

b)      requests, that in terms of both heritage authenticity and public amenity, as many of the facilities as possible be recommissioned for the purpose they were designed for – public toilets

c)      requests a formal heritage assessment of each building preparatory to listing.

Public input - Presentation on the Ihumatao Special Housing Area

 

A PowerPoint presentation was provided. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

 

Member Dave Veart declared an interest in this item and took no part in the voting on the matter.

Resolution number HER/2015/32

MOVED by Member B Rayner, seconded by Member E Aitken-Rose:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)            thank Qiane Matata-Sipu, Waimarie McFarland, Brendan Corbett and Farrell Clearly for their presentation to the Heritage Advisory Panel on the Ihumatao Special Housing Area

b)            expresses its deep concern about the likely impacts of the Ihumatao Special Housing Area development and recommends to the Auckland Development Committee that in regards to the Oruarangi Road, Mangere Special Housing Area, a thoroughgoing investigation of the heritage values (including natural, cultural and historic heritage) be undertaken as part of the Plan Variation process

c)            requests the Auckland Development Committee to please grant a public input request to Save Our Unique Landscape group to speak at an upcoming meeting as a matter of urgency

d)            requests the Auckland Council Housing Project Office to please communicate with the Save Our Unique Landscape group as a matter of urgency

 

e)            requests a presentation from the Auckland Council Housing Project Office on the Ihumatao development and Special Housing Areas in general to the Heritage Advisory Panel.

Public Input - Presentation on Auckland's heritage bush tramways of the Waitakere Ranges. 

 

The meeting adjourned at 7.36pm and reconvened at 7.47pm. Cr CM Casey was not present.

Resolution number HER/2015/33

MOVED by Member L Wilson, seconded by Member B Rayner:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)      thank Mr Harvey Stewart, former Watercare and ARA engineer, for his presentation to the Heritage Advisory Panel on Auckland’s heritage bush tramways of the Waitakere Ranges

b)      recognises the important and unique heritage values of the Waitakere Ranges bush tramways system, and its historical role in the development of Auckland’s water catchment dams, and stresses the importance of its conservation.
