Resolution number WHK/2015/82 MOVED by Chairperson PA Walden, seconded by Member JP Meeuwsen: That the Waiheke Local Board: a) Receives the report “Waiheke Marine Protection Research” from Colmar Brunton. b) Notes the very significant support for establishing Marine Protected Areas and Marine Reserves from Waiheke residents and rate payers. c) Notes the top four considerations for the establishment of “No Take” Marine Reserves also received very significant support. d) That the median percentage of the Gulf that should be placed “No Take Marine Reserves” is 40% from residents and 30% from off Island rate payers. e) Notes the government’s commitment to increasing Marine Reserves and the objectives of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Act. f) Will seek to engage with relevant ministers, local members of Parliament, Auckland Council, Mana Whenua and members of the community to determine how we can use the results of this survey to advance the objective on increasing protected areas including “No Take” Marine Reserves in the Hauraki Gulf. g) Thanks Emily Bing for her attendance and presentation.
