That the Kaipātiki Local Board:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Wednesday, 22 July 2015, as a true and correct record.

6          Acknowledgements

 

6.1

Hon George Gair

 

 

 

The Kaipātiki Local Board acknowledges former North Shore Member of Parliament and Mayor, the Honourable George Gair, CMG QSO.

 

Mr Gair was the MP for Auckland's North Shore from 1966 to 1999 and was a cabinet minister in governments from 1975-1984, holding at different times the portfolios of transport, energy, health and social welfare. He served as the National Party deputy leader from 1986-1987.

 

Following his retirement from parliament, Mr Gair was appointed New Zealand's High Commissioner in London from 1991 to 1994, and was elected Mayor of North Shore City from 1995 to 1998.

 

Mr Gair is a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for his dedication to public services and is a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George.

 

Mr Gair is survived by his wife, Fay, of 64 years, his three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

That the Kaipātiki Local Board:

 

a)         acknowledges the passing of George Gair, noting his significant contribution to public services in New Zealand.

b)        sends its condolences to Mr Gair’s wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

YMCA Raise Up

 

Mr Nick Douch was in attendance to address the Kaipātiki Local Board regarding the YMCA ‘Raise Up’ youth programme.

A powerpoint presentation was provided. A copy of the presentation has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

That the Kaipātiki Local Board:

a)      receive the deputation from Nick Douch of YMCA Raise Up.

b)      thank Nick Douch and YMCA Raise Up for their attendance and presentation.

Glenfield Community Centre

 

Mr David Thornton and Mr Nigel Green were in attendance to address the Kaipātiki Local Board regarding the Glenfield Community Centre.

A document titled ‘Glenfield Community Centre report to Kaipātiki Local Board 26th June 2015’ was tabled. A copy of the document has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

Mr Peter Wolf was in attendance to address the Kaipātiki Local Board regarding the Kaipātiki Youth Development Trust.
