Hon George Gair
|

|
The Kaipātiki Local Board
acknowledges former North Shore Member of Parliament and Mayor, the
Honourable George Gair, CMG QSO.
Mr Gair was the
MP for Auckland's North Shore from 1966 to 1999 and
was a cabinet minister in governments from 1975-1984, holding at different
times the portfolios of transport, energy, health and social welfare. He
served as the National Party deputy leader from 1986-1987.
Following his retirement from parliament,
Mr Gair was appointed New Zealand's High Commissioner in London from 1991 to
1994, and was elected Mayor of North Shore City from 1995 to 1998.
Mr Gair is a Companion of the Queen's
Service Order for his dedication to public services and is a Companion of the
Order of St Michael and St George.
Mr Gair is survived by his wife, Fay, of 64 years, his three children, five
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

the passing of George Gair, noting his significant contribution to public
services in New Zealand.
