1          Apologies

MOVED by Chairperson ME Lee, seconded by Member D Veart:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)         accept the apology from Member A McEwan, Member A Matson and Member R Hoskins for absence and from Chairperson ME Lee for early departure.

2          Declaration of Interest

 

The following members declared an interest:

 

Member G Burgess declared an interest in Item 7 – Heritage Managers’ update in regards to St James Theatre and the pre-1944 historical overlay as a submitter on the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan.

Member H Geary declared an interest in Item 5 – Public input: St David’s Memorial Church, Paul Baragwanath.

Member S Hughes declared an interest in Item 7 – Heritage Managers’ update in regards to the pre-1944 historical overlay.

Member J Matthews declared an interest in Item 7 – Heritage Managers’ update in regards to the pre-1944 historical overlay.

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Tuesday, 28 July 2015, as a true and correct record.

Public Input: St David's Memorial Church, Paul Baragwanath

 

Member G Burgess, Member H Geary and Member L Wilson declared an interest in this item.

Resolution number HER/2015/44

MOVED by Member S Reynolds, seconded by Member S Hughes:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)        thank Paul Baragwanath for his update report on saving St David’s Memorial Church and convey appreciation and support to Paul Baragwanath and the Friends of St David for the scheduling of the Memorial Church building.

b)        agree that the Chair of the Panel writes to the Auckland Council Chief Executive Officer urging Council to support the scheduling of St David’s Church.

Public input: Rob Thomas - presentation on behalf of Save the King's School Hanna Block

 

Note:   Changes to the original recommendations were made with the agreement of the meeting.

 

Resolution number HER/2015/45

MOVED by Chairperson ME Lee, seconded by Member C Page:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)        thank Rob Thomas, Waitemata Local Board member for his presentation on the Kings School Hanna Block.

b)        receive the presentation and supplementary information from the Save the Historic King’s School Hanna Block Group.

c)        request Auckland Council to undertake a heritage assessment of the King’s School Hanna Block in the light of new important heritage information and consider as a matter of urgency the issuing of a heritage protection order on the King’s School Hanna Block.

d)        that the assessment is reported back to the Auckland Heritage Advisory Panel via delegation to the Chair and Deputy Chair as soon as possible.

e)        requests the Chair of the Panel to write to the Chair of the board of trustees of King’s School noting the Panel’s grave concern and request the board to reconsider its decision to demolish the Hanna Block.

Heritage Managers' update

 

Member G Burgess declared an interest in this item, in relation to the pre-1944 historical overlay as a submitter on the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan.

Chairperson ME Lee vacated the chair and left the meeting. Member S Hughes assumed the chair at 7.51 pm.

 

Resolution number HER/2015/46

MOVED by Member S Reynolds, seconded by Member L Wilson:  

That the Heritage Advisory Panel:

a)        receive the update by Noel Reardon, Heritage Manager, on current heritage projects and issues, and in particular:

i)          supports Auckland Council making contribution towards the restoration of St James Theatre in recognition of its significant heritage and wider cultural values

ii)         notes that this type of public/private partnership encourages future heritage protection and restoration opportunities

iii)       notes the significance of the St James project in terms of enhancing the functionality and economic value of this important inner city arts and entertainment precinct

iv)       acknowledge and thank the Auckland Council heritage team in preparing the pre-1944 survey work
