Approval for the Manurewa Local Board Chairperson to Attend the Inaugural Women in Politics Annual General Meeting (AGM)
File No.: CP2016/00655
Purpose
1. Seeking approval for up to $1,000 for travel costs for the Manurewa Local Board Chairperson to attend the inaugural Women in Politics annual general meeting (AGM) being held on 8 March 2016 at Parliament to coincide with International Women’s Day.
Executive Summary
2. The annual general meeting commences at 5.30pm with members’ events organized for 4.30pm and 6.15pm.
3. Women in Politics is an incorporated society of elected women from local and central government in New Zealand.
4. Women represent just 30% of local and central government in New Zealand, and that figure has remained static for over a decade.
5. Women in Politics want to support women already in politics and improve women's representation in politics in New Zealand by encouraging the future generation of women into a life of politics.
6. The organisation aims to:
i) inspire and promote women to view politics as a career
ii) foster a spirit of loyalty and support for members
iii) generate public discussion and debate about women's place in political leadership.
7. The AGM is being held at Parliament, Wellington. The Chairperson is seeking approval for travel costs to attend the meeting. At this point the exact amount to travel is unknown but it is anticipated that the amount would not exceed $1,000.
8. Please note the heading only report on the 28 January 2016 agenda had an incorrect title. The initial report title read: “Approval for the Chair to Attend Women in Local Government AGM and Meeting”. The report title should have read: “Approval for the Manurewa Local Board Chairperson to Attend the Inaugural Women in Politics Annual General Meeting (AGM)”.
That the Manurewa Local Board: a) approve up to $1,000 for travel costs for the Chairperson to attend the inaugural Women in Politics annual general meeting being held at Parliament on Tuesday, 8 March 2016.
