Infrastructure and Environmental Services Update Report

 

Emma Joyce, Relationship Advisor, Jeremy Warden, Biosecurity Advisor (Great Barrier), and Chris Naya, Senior Waste Specialist (Transfer Stations & HGI) were in attendance to present to the Great Barrier Environment Committee in respect to the Infrastructure and Environmental Services Update Report.

That the Great Barrier Environment Committee:

a)      note the information in the Infrastructure and Environmental Services update report

b)      support the Infrastructure and Environmental Services Request for Proposal to run a one year community led Resource Recovery Trial on the island

c)      thank Emma Joyce, Relationship Advisor, Jeremy Warden, Biosecurity          Advisor (Great Barrier), and Chris Naya, Senior Waste Specialist (Transfer          Stations & HGI) for their attendance and presentation on the Infrastructure and          Environmental Services Update Report

Great Barrier Local Board submission to the Marine Protected Areas Act consultation document

 

Resolution number GBESP/2016/6

MOVED by Member SP Daly, seconded by Member JJ Gilbert:  

That the Great Barrier Environment Committee:

a)      delegate authority to the committee chair in discussion with other committee members to approve its submission on the Government’s Marine Protected Areas Act consultation document to the Auckland Council submission before 29 February 2016

b)      note that the board’s submission is seeking a Marine Protected Areas Act which:

i)     ensures abundance for future generations

ii)    addresses overfishing in the Hauraki Gulf and particularly around the         waters around Aotea Great Barrier Island and its surrounding islands

iii)   enables communities such as Aotea Great Barrier Island and surrounding        islands to develop and achieve MPAs with sufficient flexibility to meet their        aspirations

iv)   is consistent with and gives effect to the provisions of the Hauraki Gulf        Marine Park Act and the outcomes of the Sea Change Tai Timu Tai Pari        process prior to decisions being made

Kaitoke Beach Dune Stabilisation Project

 

Resolution number GBESP/2016/7

MOVED by Member SP Daly, seconded by Member IM Fordham:  

That the Great Barrier Environment Committee:

a)      allocate $3,859 from its 2015/16 LDI community response opex budget to fund the purchase, delivery and planting of 850 Great Barrier sourced Pingao & Golden Sand Tussock plants for the Kaitoke Beach Dune Stabilisation project in June 2016.

Aotea Great Barrier Ecology Conversations Phase 2 update

MOVED by Member SP Daly, seconded by Member JJ Gilbert:  

That the Great Barrier Environment Committee:

a)      note the Aotea Great Barrier Ecology Conversation Phase 2 project update.

b)      note that there are a range of important ecology initiatives underway on the island which it suggests could be used as the phase 2 signature projects and request a workshop to discuss prior to the 12 March community workshop.

c)      agree to move $8,000 from the 2015/16 LDI community response opex budget line to the Ecology Conversations budget line.
