That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         accept the apologies from Cr Christine Fletcher, Mr Leo Koziol and Ms Nicola MacDonald for absence, Mr Terrence Hohneck and Mr Paul Majurey for lateness, Cr Wayne Walker for lateness and early departure, and Ms Meg Poutasi for early departure.

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 14 December 2015, as a true and correct record.

Tim Higham, Executive Officer, Hauraki Gulf Forum, gave a PowerPoint presentation in support of Item 7 – The Government’s new approach to marine protection.

 

Deputy Mayor Peter French entered the meeting at 1.12 pm.

Mr Paul Majurey entered the meeting at 1.14 pm.

Cr Wayne Walker entered the meeting at 1.21 pm.

 

Dr Nick Shears gave a PowerPoint presentation in support of Item 8 – Leigh Marine Reserve:  Briefing on recent monitoring.

Rod and Sue Neureuter gave a PowerPoint presentation in support of Item 9 – The Noises:  Briefing on concerns about effects of recreational fishing activity.

A copy of each presentation has been placed on the official minutes and are available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

 

Cr Wayne Walker left the meeting at 2.13 pm.

The meeting adjourned at 2.42 pm and reconvened at 3.08 pm.

Mr Paul Majurey was not in attendance when the meeting reconvened.

 

Resolution number HGF/2016/3

MOVED by Chairperson John Tregidga, seconded by Cr Rob McGuire:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         thank Dr Nick Shears and Rod and Sue Neureuter for their presentations.

b)        approve the lodging of an amended submission on the Ministry for the Environment’s ‘A New Marine Protected Areas Act’.

c)         delegate authority to the chair and deputy chair for approval of the amended submission on the Ministry for the Environment’s ‘A New Marine Protected Areas Act’.

d)        seek urgent consideration of tools to protect the marine environments of the Noises islands, Goat Island and other marine reserves from fishing pressures, including within the Sea Change Tai Timu Tai Pari process.

MOVED by Chairperson John Tregidga, seconded by Cr Peter Buckley:  

That the Hauraki Gulf Forum:

a)         thank Jenny Chilcott, Senior Waste Planning Specialist and Julia Dickinson for their attendance.

b)        provide advice on engagement with mana whenua, marine users and other parties in the development of a Hauraki Gulf Waste Plan.
