Members are reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

3 Confirmation of Minutes

Josephine Bartley and Celia Brandon of New Zealand Red Cross presented to the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel about refugee resettlement and requested feedback from the panel members regarding further actions that could be taken in this field, including the possibility of Auckland becoming a refugee welcome zone. A PowerPoint presentation was provided. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment. |

Resolution number ETH/2016/16 MOVED by Member D Tomu, seconded by Member Y Lee : That the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel: a) receive the information and thank Josephine Bartley and Celia Brandon for their attendance. b) request that Bernard Te Paa, Abigael Vogt and Austin Kim compile specific information about council’s work relating to refugee resettlement in Auckland that is already in progress, investigate any further available options, and report this information back to this panel. |

Mabel Msopero spoke about the Auckland Ethnic Engagement Summit. A letter from the New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils Inc. regarding the success of the Auckland Ethnic Engagement Summit was provided. A copy was placed on the official agenda and is available on the Auckland Council website as an agenda attachment. The panel acknowledges and celebrates the Auckland Ethnic Engagement Summit that was hosted by Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Pratima Nand spoke about a project to translate the Treaty of Waitangi into 30 languages. Bernard Te Paa, Lead Officer Support and Pae Urungi Tuhono – Manager Māori Outcomes presented to the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel about Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi. A PowerPoint presentation was provided. A copy was placed on the official agenda and is available on the Auckland Council website as an agenda attachment. |
