4 Extraordinary Business
Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (as amended) states:
“An item that is not on the agenda for a meeting may be dealt with at that meeting if-
(a) The local authority by resolution so decides; and
(b) The presiding member explains at the meeting, at a time when it is open to the public,-
(i) The reason why the item is not on the agenda; and
(ii) The reason why the discussion of the item cannot be delayed until a subsequent meeting.”

“Where an item is not on the agenda for a meeting,-
(a) That item may be discussed at that meeting if-
(i) That item is a minor matter relating to the general business of the local authority; and

Seniors Advisory Panel Work Programme update

Purpose
1. To receive up-to-date information regarding the Seniors Advisory’ Panel’s work programme and how the panel’s advice has been used.
Executive Summary
2. This report updates on the advice and input it has provided. The lead officer now requests staff, where possible, to indicate how advice from the Seniors Advisory Panel is applied.

Comments
3. This report provides an update on the panel’s programme of work and advice provided.
4. The panel’s deputy chair spoke at the Community Development and Safety Committee on 1 June. This was a joint response with a representative from the Youth Advisory Panel sharing bookend views on intensification from both ends of the age spectrum.
5. Libraries and Information staff presented at the May meeting on ideas for International Day of the Older Person (IDOP) 2016. Feedback and input from the Seniors Advisory Panel influenced the IDOP presentation taken to other panels (Youth Advisory Panel and Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel).
6. The focus is on two key ideas to promote intergenerational interaction. These are an intergenerational quiz night and the ‘Living Storybook’ afternoon event that will be held in each four parts of Auckland to engage with communities and encourage intergenerational conversations and grow mutual understanding. The Youth Advisory Panel and Pacific People’s Advisory Panel expressed strong support for the ideas and events.
7. The panel provided feedback to Auckland Transport on:
a) footpath safety and appropriately designed streetscapes
b) design inclusive of people with dementia
c) the safety of older people around busy roads
d) accessible parking
e) public transport options that are friendly to older people.
8. Following the discussion with the panel, Auckland Transport staff signaled willingness to talk further with panel members about a CBD walking map. There was also the offer for a panel member to join Auckland Transport’s Capital Projects Advisory Group.
9. The panel advised that a universal design forum the Auckland being planned by the Auckland Design Office for October could combine influencing decision makers with some space for the public to be involved. The lead officer was asked to follow up with Panuku Development Auckland around its approach to promoting universal design.
10. The consultation on the Housing for Older People partnership commenced on 2 June. The Seniors Advisory Panel has provided input into this initiative.
11. At a workshop on 2 May panel members provided input on an engagement document: ‘Reporting on the status of older Aucklanders’.
12. The Seniors Advisory Panel will host a community summit at the Aotea Centre on 5 July 2016.
13. Panel meetings are set for 25 July and 5 September. The lead officer support will be absent for the 25 July meeting.

Purpose
1. To update Seniors Advisory Panel members on planning for the Seniors Forum at the Aotea Centre on 5 July 2016.
Executive summary
2. A working party of panel members and staff was formed to plan the 2016 Seniors Advisory Panel community summit. This working party comprises of:

· Joan Lardner-Rivlin
· Sonny Niha
· Greg Morgan, Lead Officer Support
· Austin Kim, Principal Advisor Panels.
3. The working party will provide an update on planning for the Seniors Forum at the Aotea Centre on 5 July 2016.
4. The focus of the Seniors Forum will be to promote greater visibility of – and among – a diverse range of groups in which older people participate. This forum, which will be the panel’s community summit for 2016, will also enable the panel to gather views on matters relevant to older people in Auckland.
