That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)         accept the apologies from Chairperson C Lansink and Member S Sherrard for absence and from Councillor S Stewart for absence on council business.

3          Confirmation of Minutes

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)         confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting held on Monday, 30 May 2016 as a true and correct record.

4          Extraordinary Business

 

There was no extraordinary business.

Update report on Universal Access and Design

 

Elise Copeland, Principal Specialist Universal Access and Design spoke to the report and answered questions from panel members. Subsequent to the meeting, in response to a question, she was able to confirm that the Tamaki Regeneration Company will have its own Design Review Panel and she has requested to be part of the panel.

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)      receive the verbal update from the Principal Specialist Universal Access and Design.

Disability Access and Inclusion Update

 

Martine Abel, Specialist Advisor, Community Empowerment spoke to the report and answered questions from panel members.

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)      receive the update on disability access and inclusion initiatives across council.

Disabled People's Participation in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

 

Ezekiel Robson and Mireille Vreeburg spoke to the report and answered questions from panel members.

 

 

Resolution number DIS/2016/30

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson J Herring, seconded by Member G Martin:  

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)      receive the verbal presentation concerning My Voice Matters and thank Ezekiel Robson and Mireille Vreeburg for attending.

b)      consider how as members they might be able to share the information provided by My Voice Matters with people and organisations within their networks.

c)      acknowledge the support provided by council staff members Martine Abel, Specialist Advisor, and Katie Watson, Community Engagement Lead – Elections to the My Voice Matters team.

d)      request Katie Watson, Community Engagement Lead – Elections to keep statistics of the number of disabled people who were assisted with the completion of voting papers.

Disability Advisory Panel Work Programme

 

Andrew Wood, Lead Officer and Austin Kim, Principal Advisor Panels spoke to the report and answered questions from panel members.

 

 

Resolution number DIS/2016/31

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson J Herring, seconded by Member G Martin:  

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

a)      reflect on the achievements and highlights of the Panel’s work over the past 2 years.

b)      receive the verbal update from Austin Kim, Principal Advisor Panels on the presentation to the governing body and the end of term function.

c)      note that it is deeply disappointed that it appears that the provision for accessible housing, as recommended in the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan, has been removed by the Independent Hearings Panel as this will impact on the lives of a significant proportion of people looking for accessible housing (Refer to Residential Zones, topics 059-063, page 4 – 1.2 Summary of the Panel’s recommended changes to the proposed Auckland Unitary Plan from point 1.2.xiii).

That the Disability Advisory Panel:

d)        record a vote of thanks to Clive Lansink and John Herring for their leadership throughout the last term and to Martine Abel, Andrew Wood, Austin Kim and Mike Giddey for their support of the panel during the last term.
