The Chair opened the meeting and welcomed committee members, invited guests and the public.

 

A minute silence in commemoration of the six year anniversary of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake was observed.

 

Cr R Clow entered the meeting at 10.32 am.

Cr D Quax entered the meeting at 10.33 am.

That the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group Committee:

a)         accept the apology from Member Hon Tau Henare for absence.

Steve Hsieh, Patricia Duke, George Chan and Voltaire Chang, representatives of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation New Zealand were present and provided a powerpoint presentation. MOVED by Chairperson S Stewart, seconded by Deputy Chairperson J Watson:  

That the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group Committee:

a)           receive a presentation from Steve Hsieh, Patricia Duke, George Chan and Voltaire Chang on the work of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation New Zealand.

b)           thank the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation New Zealand for their ongoing work in New Zealand.

Resolution number CIV/2017/4

MOVED by Chairperson S Stewart, seconded by Deputy Chairperson J Watson:  

That the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group Committee:

a)      endorse the draft Public Alerting Framework for Auckland for consultation with local boards and other appropriate parties; and

b)      note that the results of the consultation, either preliminary or in full, as well as advice on the next steps for public alerting in Auckland, will be brought to the 24 May 2017 Committee meeting.

a)      endorse the development of an elected member engagement framework.

b)      nominate Cr Stewart, Cr Watson and Cr Casey to assist in the development and piloting of the elected members engagement framework.

That the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group Committee:

a)      approve the establishment of a ‘virtual resilience department’ to be led by Auckland CDEM to drive the integration of ‘resilience’ across Auckland Council strategies, plans, work programmes and budgets.
