Jaylene Ball and Jean Areaiiti gave an update on the activities being undertaken at Te Whare Awhina O Tamworth, Clendon Park and Randwick Park Community Houses.

9          Public Forum

 

9.1

Public Forum - Manurewa Bus Stop Relocation from Great South Road – Berend de Boer

 

Berend de Boer, on behalf of an elderly church member, addressed the board in relation to the re-location of the bus stops from the Great South Road, Manurewa to Selwyn Road (behind Southmall and the train station).  The church member is experiencing difficulty in having to walk an additional distance to the Manurewa main street shopping area which is limiting the ability to use the bus service.

That the Manurewa Local Board :

a)         thank Berend de Boer, for his presentation regarding the re-location of the bus stops from Great South Road, Manurewa to Selwyn Road (behind Southmall and the train station) and the difficulty being experienced by an elderly church member in having to walk an additional distance to the Manurewa main street shopping area.

Public Forum – Vehicle Speed Along Christmas Road - John Winter

 

John Winter addressed the board on behalf of the Christmas Road residents outlining the residents’ concerns of the speed that vehicles travel along Christmas Road.

Manurewa Ward Councillors Update

That the Manurewa Local Board:

a)      receive the verbal reports from Councillor Daniel Newman regarding:

·         referenced the 2014 on-licence renewal decision by the District Licensing Committee for Copper Lounge being declined as the principle business appeared to be gambling rather than the sale of alcohol.  Queried whether this criteria could be applied to some of the premises in Manurewa when applying for renewals

·         draft 2017/2018 Annual Plan

·         supported 3.5% rates increase

·         supported the living wage

·         supported the targeted rate on residential development

·         did not support the tourist targeted rate for accommodation providers, would prefer a targeted tied to visitor nights.

·         flagged that there may be another debate about swimming pool charges as part of the Long-term plan discussions.

·         attended Southmall Cultural Festival

·         helping with the organisation of a talent quest at Southmall

·         participated in the hikoi from Weymouth to Manurewa Marae

·         advised the Nathan Homestead refurbishment is completed and looking good.

ii)         Member Ken Penney regarding:

·         issues being attended to as follows:

-       Reremanu Place to Blanes Road bollards required

-       Maplesden Drive trees overhanging the pathway

·         the need for public toilets at the Manurewa train station

·         the need for bike sheds at the Manurewa train station

·         queried whether there is a bylaw for selling cars on the road side

·         acknowledged the chairperson and staff for their work on developing the local board plan.

xvii)     supported and funded the Integrated Area Plan (IAP) consultation event

xviii)    chair presented to the Governing Body on the Manurewa 2017/2018 Annual Agreement advocacy “Partnerships”.

xix)      Sarah Colcord represented the board at the Community Development and Safety Committee panel discussion on youth civic participation.
