Biosecurity update and Culvert Remediation Validation report

File No.: CP2017/11870

Purpose

1.       To receive the monthly Aotea Great Barrier biosecurity report.

2.       To receive the Culvert Remediation, Validation Monitoring, Great Barrier Island report.

Executive summary

3.       Council’s biosecurity officer produces a monthly report to the Great Barrier Local Board (the board) to update on the delivery of both locally and regionally funded biosecurity works on Aotea Great Barrier. This report is appended at attachment A to enable the wider community to be informed of biosecurity projects.

4.       A survey of remediated culverts was undertaken as part of the 2016/2017 environment work programme. A report back from the contractor is appended as attachment B for the board’s information.

5.       The fish passage and culvert remediation report is one of three freshwater related projects funded as part of the 2016/2017 work programme. This report along with the report back on the septic tank education programme, and the results of the source tracking completed in Tryphena streams, will inform the planned 2017/2018 freshwater monitoring programme. A report with all three reports, including options for implementation of any recommendations, will be included in an upcoming board agenda.

Recommendation

That the Great Barrier Local Board:

a)      note the information in the April – May Biosecurity Update and the Culvert Remediation, Validation Monitoring, Great Barrier Island report.

b)      note that all reports from contractors delivering the Great Barrier 2016/2017 environment work programme will be included on an upcoming Great Barrier Local Board agenda.
