1          Apologies

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         noted the apology from Member Naoe Hashimoto for absence.

 

 

2          Declaration of Interest

 

There were no declarations of interest.

 

 

3          Confirmation of Minutes

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         confirmed the minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 17 July 2017, as a true and correct record.

 

 

Note:   Cr Casey presented the Heritage festival programme and encouraged members to attend its free events through-out the region.

Public Input - Census 2018 Engagement Team

 

The Census 2018 engagement team, Sindy Xian and Kudakwashe Tuwe were in attendance and spoke about the 2018 census.

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         thanked the Census Engagement Team for the presentation regarding their objective for the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel to advocate within their networks for completion of the Census and provide recommendations for reaching ethnic communities.

Public Input - Chinese New Settlers Services Trust

 

Gloria Gao, Senior Manager Social Services presented the Trusts’ services for new settlers in New Zealand. A copy of the presentation has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website.

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      thanked Gloria Gao, Senior Manager Social Services from the Chinese New Settlers Services Trust for the presentation and attendance.

 

Panel feedback and advice

-       Agreed that the Chinese New Settlers Services Trust (CNSST) has a need to work with government organisations and non-government organisations in Auckland

-       Encouraged and congratulated CNSST for their ongoing work with different communities.

Auckland Transport - Ethnic Engagement for the New Network

 

A powerpoint presentation was provided in support of the item. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as minutes attachments.

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         provided advice through table discussions regarding how best Auckland Transport connect with ethnic groups in relation to the new bus routes, new timetables in East Auckland and the Central and North Shore implementations of the new network.

b)        requested that Auckland Transport to report back on progress on the outcomes of the engagement and new networks.

c)        received the powerpoint presentation and thanked the new network team at Auckland Transport for their attendance.

Discussion on the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel's community forum 2017/2018

 

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         received the report.

 

Panel feedback and advice

-       The panel discussed different ideas for the community forum

-       Holding a joint panel discussion on a common issue

-       Look at ways to engage local students and/or writers

-       Explore digital platforms or methods to engage more people

-       A public forum to celebrate different organisation works in different ethnic communities and discuss how the media perceive ethnicity

-       Research on ethnic communities, e.g contribution to Auckland’s economy

-       Integration into Auckland for new and ethnic migrants.

The Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)      noted the upcoming Diwali festival.
