Roger Fowler opened the meeting with a karakia.

 

1          Apologies

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)         noted the apologies from Mihi Te Huia for absence and Sonny Niha for lateness.

 

 

2          Declaration of Interest

 

There were no declarations of interest.

 

 

3          Confirmation of Minutes

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)         confirmed the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 17 July 2017 as a true and correct record.

 

 

4.1

Public Input - Age Concern

 

Janferie Bryce-Chapman, Executive Officer Age Concern North Shore provided members with copies of brochures on “The Big Picture” and “Elder Abuse hits close to home”. She spoke about the services her organisation provides and expressed disappointment that Auckland Council had not voted to be an Age Friendly City.

 

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the information on Age Concern from Janferie Bryce-Chapman, Executive Officer, Age Concern North Shore and thanked her for her attendance.

 

 

4.2

Public Input - Grey Power

 

Anne-Marie Coury, President, Auckland Grey Power, accompanied by Bill Rayner, Zone Two Director Grey Power North Associations, spoke about the services her organisation provides.

 

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the information on Grey Power from Anne-Marie Coury, President, Auckland Grey Power and thanked her and Bill Rayner, Zone Two Director Grey Power North Associations for their attendance.

Auckland Transport - SuperGold scheme and AT HOP card update

 

Kate Nolan, Commercial Advisor, Policy and Projects, Auckland Transport and Katy Morgan, AT HOP Retail Lead, Auckland Transport provided members with an update on the SuperGold scheme and the AT HOP card and responded to members’ questions.

 

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the information provided by the Auckland Transport representatives and thanked them for their attendance.

 

The Chairperson accorded precedence to Item 9 at this time.

Seniors Advisory Panel Liaison Councillor's Update

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the update on regional issues of significance affecting senior communities from Liaison Councillor Linda Cooper, in particular:

·         Unitary Plan wash-ups

·         Minor District Plan changes

·         Auckland Plan Refresh

·         Long-term Plan 2018-2028

·         Community Safety and Nuisance Bylaw

·         Smokefree policy

·         World Homeless Day

Auckland Council's Response to Homelessness

 

Staff provided a PowerPoint presentation in support of this item. A copy has been placed on the official minutes as a minutes attachment.

 

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the presentation on Auckland Council’s Response to Homelessness and provided advice on the discussion questions.

Panel’s Advice

Panel members provided insights into the prevalence of homelessness for seniors and asked to be involved in the development of the cross-sectoral homelessness strategy.

Seniors Advisory Panel Work Programme Update

 

Allison Dobbie, Lead Officer responded to questions from panel members on the work programme for the 2017/18 financial year.

a)      received the update on the work programme.

Seniors Advisory Panel's Community Forum 2017/2018

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      discussed the themes and format of the panel’s community forum(s).

Panel’s Advice

Panel members recommended that the theme of the panel’s community forum should be linked to the Auckland Plan refresh and Long-term Plan 2018-2028 and the Age Friendly City issue. There were suggestions that the venue should be central and of a possible partnership with AUT. The Forum could also feed into the Investing in Aucklanders programme.

 

 

Item 9 Seniors Advisory Panel Liaison Councillor’s Update was considered after Item 5 Auckland Transport - SuperGold scheme and AT HOP card update.

Seniors Advisory Panel - Members' Update

 

The Seniors Advisory Panel:

a)      received the update about upcoming events and issues impacting senior communities from Chairperson Janet Clews and Members Joan Lardner-Rivlin and Judy Blakey, in particular:

·         Briefing provided by Teena Abbey on Investing in Aucklanders

·         International Day of Older People

·         Silverline Charitable Trust working with Lifeline

·         AUT Age Friendly Cities Forum.

 

Mere Tunks closed the meeting with a karakia.

 

2.24pm                                               The Chairperson thanked Members for their attendance and attention to business and declared the meeting closed.
