UPsouth Prizegiving

File No.: CP2017/24360

Purpose

1.       To seek funding for UPsouth prize giving ceremony from the community response fund.

Executive summary

2.       UPsouth is an online platform for South Auckland people to respond to social issues and hot topics. South Aucklanders get the opportunity to develop ideas through a Call up, a creative online space where they can earn money for their input.

3.       The Call up was to create an original video promoting Manukau as a positive place to live and play. The Call up ran for 3 months starting June 2nd and ending September 30th 2017. Within that time period there was a total of 24 participants.

4.       The local board supported this initiative and funded $5000 to go towards the prizes for the applicants (OP/2017/80, 16 May 2017.) The board agreed that the top three video creators would receive $1000 each and the remaining $2000 to be used as micro payments to as many video creators as possible.

5.       With the competition now complete the Chair of Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board along with The Southern Initiative (TSI) are seeking funding to hold a prize giving event to present the applicants with their prizes.  Details of the event have not yet been finalised.

Recommendation/s

That the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board

a)   agree to fund up to $1000 from the community response fund to The Southern Initiative for the UPsouth prize giving event.

b)   delegate to the Chair to finalise details of the event, in consultation with The Southern Initiative.
