Manurewa Ward Councillors Update

That the Manurewa Local Board:

a)      receive the verbal reports from:

i)       Councillor Daniel Newman regarding:

·         Congratulations to Dave Pizzini for winning the by-election to the Manurewa Local Board.

·         Acknowledge Louise Mason on her appointment to the General Manager Local Board Services.

·         Regional Issues:

·         Debate on Long Term Plan budget (10 year plan) on how Auckland funds its Transport needs – road sealing and road maintenance  (McNichol Road quarry - how will the local roads cope with the trucks hauling aggravate around Auckland).

·         Targeted rate for water quality. Will any of the money come back into the Manurewa community.

·         Discussion on the Water quality Levy , Wastewater Levy, Environmental Levy and Transport Levy.

·         Reflecting on local initiatives around the Manurewa Town Centre and Greenways Project.

·         Sculpture in the Gardens:

Attended closing ceremony – Manurewa Local Board thanked for their financial help

·         CAB:

Attended morning tea to thank volunteers

·         Friends of Botanic Gardens:

Attended monthly meeting.  Friends will not be financially supporting Sculpture in the Gardens.  Review team to be set up to look at other options for this bi-annual event

·         Consumer Council:

Attended monthly meeting at Middlemore Hospital

·         Wattle Downs R & R:

Attended monthly meeting

·         Clendon Park Business Assn:

Attended two meetings.  Enthusiastic group of people, very keen to progress this initiative.  Each shop has been visited to get basic info for data base.  Good response. 

·         Finlayson School:

Meet with Ross Gallagher regarding the incoming Kapa Hapa event – school may apply for some funding

·         Poppy Road signs:

Few meetings regarding this initiative.  Few road blocks from AT (no pun intended).  Jenni is following through and will report back.  It would be great to have these in place before Armstice.

·         Attended Chairs Forum x 2

·         Attended AFC clubrooms update

·         Wiri Licensing Trust:

Attended monthly meeting

·         Hospice Sunrise Walk:

Met with Melanie Seal regarding LB assistance.  Put her in touch with Lisah, also distributed posters, also distributed posters for the upcoming Ladies Luncheon to raise funds for Hospice

iii)      Joseph Allan regarding:

·      Manurewa County Music Club issues regarding renewal of their bookings through the new booking system.

·      Totara Park weed issues are being resolved.

iv)      Sarah Colcord

·      Youth Council Meeting 28 February and 14 March 2018. Discussed the Long Term Plan, Local Board initiatives prior to the Have Your Say.

·      Manurewa Youth Network Hui.

v)       Rangi McLean

·         James Cook one of the lead schools at Polyfest – holding the memory of George Pomana who passed last year.

·         Manurewa High School and Te Putake Manurewa upholding the mana of Manurewa.

·         Clendon Pride project preparing for the upcoming Hikoi is on Friday 16 March 9.30 to 3.00pm.

David Nathan Park: approval of the reserve management plan and to update the conservation plan

 

Resolution number MR/2018/26

MOVED by Member J Allan, seconded by Member S Cattle:  

That the Manurewa Local Board:

a)      adopt the David Nathan Park Reserve Management Plan 2018 included in Attachment A, subject to the following recommended change:

that policy 2.3 be amended so that a concept plan includes consideration of: a small children’s playground or play area.

b)      nominate members Dalton, Allan, and Cattle to endorse a mihi to be inserted into the plan.

c)      note that the full estimated cost of a conservation plan is $30,000.

d)        approve the development of an updated Conservation Plan for David Nathan Homestead and Park as a continuation of the 2017/2018 work programme line item and budget: “David Nathan Park: Develop Reserve Management Plan” (ID 2007) using the remaining funding of $15,000.

e)      approve reallocation of Locally Driven Initiatives opex funding of up to $15,000 from the 2017/2018 work programme line item MR: Teaching Gardens (ID 2042), towards the development of a Conservation Plan for David Nathan Homestead and Park.

f)       note that the adoption of the draft reserve management plan does not concur that funding will be allocated to implement development proposals.

That the Manurewa Local Board, pursuant to section 319(1)(j) of the Local Government Act 1974:

a)      approves the road name “Kanga Lane”, proposed by the applicant, for the new road created by way of subdivision at 9 – 11 James Road, Manurewa.

iii)         visited Hamilton Business Association in relation to its begging initiative
