Deputation: Robin Taua-Gordon, Heritage and Environment Officer, Te Kawerau Iwi Tribal Authority - Māori naming of reserves

That the Henderson-Massey Local Board:

a)    receive the deputation from Robin Taua-Gordon, Heritage and Environment Officer, Te Kawerau Iwi Tribal Authority  in attendance to tautoko Te Kete Rukuruku - Māori naming of parks and facilities programme report and the establishing of Māori names for reserves in the Henderson-Massey Local Board area.

a)     receive the deputation from the Te Atatu Marae Coalition Trust Board and Whanau Group with respect to the 1 July 2018 Matariki Event.

9          Public Forum

 

9.1

Mate Marinovich

·         Mr. Marinovich spoke to the board on the services of Waitakere Grey Power in the Henderson-Masssey local board area, including advocacy.

·         He also raised concerns about the issues the elderly are having with Hospital parking.

·         He was also concerned around Auckland Council’s Emergency Director being a part time Auckland Council staff

·         Praised Auckland for being named as an “Age friendly city”.

9.2

Racine Ntawe

·         Mr. Ntawe raised concerns on programmes the Henderson-Massey Local Board is doing for young people in the local board area.

9.3

Mihi Te Huia

Ms Huia spoke to the board on the traffic island on Taikata Road, near Rixon Road, Te Atatu. She requested for yellow lines or removal of the island to a better place.

That the Henderson-Massey Local Board:

a)         agree that Item 13 - Māori naming of parks and facilities in the Henderson Massey Local Board area be accorded precedence at this time.

Māori naming of parks and facilities in the Henderson Massey Local Board area

 

Resolution number HM/2018/104

MOVED by Member P Bold-Wilson, seconded by Member B Brady:  

That the Henderson-Massey Local Board:

a)      endorse the Auckland Council Māori Language Policy 2016 in attachment A

b)      endorse the Te Kete Rukuruku programme, including the Māori naming of parks and facilities, noting it supports the visibility of te reo Māori and seeks to capture and tell the unique Māori stories of Henderson-Massey and Tāmaki Makaurau

c)      invite mana whenua to provide a Māori name and narrative for the list of parks detailed in attachment B

d)      note it is expected that, in most cases, the gifted names and narratives will be adopted by the local board for use as dual names to enrich the stores of parks and support the Māori language to be visible, heard, spoken and learnt.

Auckland Transport’s Road Safety and Speed Management programme for Henderson-Massey Local Board 2018/21

That the Henderson-Massey Local Board:

a)         note our extreme disappointment that this report was not workshopped with the board prior to this meeting.

b)        receive the report entitled ‘Auckland Transport’s Safety and Speed Management programme for Henderson-Massey Local Board 2018/21.

c)         note that Auckland Transport will workshop the projects relating to the Henderson-Massey area at a future date.

a)      approve the draft Harbourview-Orangihina Park masterplan (Attachment A and B) for public notification.

b)      nominate the full local board to consider written submissions, hear submitters that request to be heard (if any) and make a decision on any submissions or objections received during the public notification process.
