That the Weed Management Political Advisory Group: a) confirm the minutes of its meeting, held on Wednesday, 4 July 2018, as a true and correct record.

Section 46A(7) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (as amended) states:
“An item that is not on the agenda for a meeting may be dealt with at that meeting if-
(a) The local authority by resolution so decides; and
(b) The presiding member explains at the meeting, at a time when it is open to the public,-
(i) The reason why the item is not on the agenda; and
(ii) The reason why the discussion of the item cannot be delayed until a subsequent meeting.”
Section 46A(7A) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (as amended) states:
“Where an item is not on the agenda for a meeting,-
(a) That item may be discussed at that meeting if-
(i) That item is a minor matter relating to the general business of the local authority; and
(ii) the presiding member explains at the beginning of the meeting, at a time when it is open to the public, that the item will be discussed at the meeting; but
(b) no resolution, decision or recommendation may be made in respect of that item except to refer that item to a subsequent meeting of the local authority for further discussion.”

Update for Weed Management Political Advisory Group - September 2018

Te take mō te pūrongo / Purpose of the report
1. To update the Weed Management Political Advisory Group on the weed implementation work programme.
Whakarāpopototanga matua / Executive summary
2. An update on the ‘Shining the Light on Innovation’ New Zealand Biosecurity conference is provided in Attachment A of the agenda report.
3. This conference provided many useful insights for Auckland Council’s weed management and also highlighted various opportunities for collaboration. These included:
· Northland Regional Council have developed an online regional pest management tool, Pest Control hub. Auckland Council staff are investigating the possibility of a local version.
· A representative from Weedbusters presented on their “Train the trainer workshops” programme to support best practice in pest plant management. These workshops could provide an opportunity for Auckland Council to support best practice with our community groups.
· Wellington City Council is using art to raise public awareness of pest plants. Auckland Council staff will explore how art could be used within the Auckland region for this purpose.
4. Presentations will be provided at the meeting on implementation of the Weed Management Policy through:
· Topic A (Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) in Auckland Council’s Weed Management)
· Topic B (Implementing the Weed Management Policy in the Full Facilities Contracts).
5. The council’s Best Practise Reference Group for weed management will meet on 6 September 2018. Minutes from this meeting will be provided at the Weed Management Political Advisory Group at their meeting on 12 September 2018.
