Kerri Maxwell, Principal Advisor – Strategy & Partnerships; outlined the assistance provided to Aucklanders following the April 2018 storm: Wednesday, 11 April 2018: · At peak, 183,000 homes were without power and 75 essential health providers and services were without power. There was the potential for those affected to be without power until 22 April (10 days) · Over 30 cell phone towers were down. From Thursday, 12 April 2018: · 273 portable toilets were delivered · 21,450l water was delivered Friday, 13 April 2018 · 35,000 people were still without power and accommodation was being discussed. Friday, 13 April 2018 – Tuesday 17 April 2018 – Operation Connect · 7,000 plus doors were knocked on by 306 door knockers · Collaboration and support were provided by Police, Land Search and Rescue, Defence Force and Red Cross. · 75 urgent requests were made · 10 welfare information centres were opened and staffed · 8,000 leaflets were delivered · 34 leisure centres and libraries provided hot showers, cups of tea and phone charging · 123 social media updates were made.
Dr Jocelyn Peach, Waitematā District Health Board addressed the panel and tabled information in support of the item. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and are available on the Auckland Council website as minutes attachments.

Janet outlined events over the last month and tabled her address in relation to Human Rights at a function recognising the International Day for Older people held at AUT on 1 October 2018. Members discussed the upcoming integrated panel meeting scheduled to be held on 8 November 2018. Janet and Judy will be attending the online voting workshop on 31 October 2018 (9.30am – 12noon). Another integrated panel session will be held at the end of November on Smart Cities. Member R Fowler entered the meeting at 12.49am. |
