The co-chairs opened the meeting and
welcome those present.
Note: The
co-chairs accorded precedence to Item 4 – Consultation with Auckland
Council Rainbow Staff Network.

Consultation with Auckland Council Rainbow Staff
Network
|
|
|
Introductions
were made between the Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel and members of the
Auckland Council Rainbow Staff Network and discussion took place on what the
panel does, how it communicates with members of the diverse communities and
gain knowledge of what the staff network does and how the panel can assist
with improving outcomes for the network.
|
|
|
The Rainbow Communities
Advisory Panel:
a) thanked
members of the Auckland Council Rainbow Staff Network for their attendance.
|
The meeting adjourned at 6.20pm and reconvened
at 6.30pm.
1 Apologies

The Rainbow
Communities Advisory Panel:
a)
accepted the apology from Aram Wu for
absence.
|
The panel acknowledged the recent passing
of Bain Duigan, Kevin Baker and Richard James.
2 Declaration
of Interest
Members are
reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a
conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other
external interest they might have.
There were no
declarations of interest.
3 Confirmation
of Minutes

The Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel:
a)
confirmed the ordinary minutes of its
meeting, held on Monday, 3 September 2018 as a
true and correct record.

4 – Consultation with Auckland Council Rainbow
Staff Network was considered prior to Item 1 – Apologies.

Confirmation of representation at the
cross-panel working group for the 2019 elections
|
|
|
The meeting was advised that John
Kingi and Julie Watson attended the first cross-panel meeting due to the
short timeframes.
John and Julie outlined the
discussions at the meeting. Bruce and Lexie noted the full report
provided and advised they were happy with representation by John and Julie
and would therefore stand aside from the panel.
It was agreed that John and Julie
would attend future cross-panel working group meetings, however Bruce and
Lexie would attend if necessary.
John will convene a meeting to discuss the
panel’s view prior to the next cross-panel working group meeting.

The Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel:
a) confirmed
the Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel representation on the cross-panel
working group for the 2019 elections with John and Julie and Bruce and Lexie
as alternate members.
|

Government and Partners Rainbow Conference -
8 and 9 November 2018
|
|
|
Members discussed the programme
for the Government and Partners Rainbow Conference being held at Jetpark
Conference Centre on 8 and 9 November 2018.
It was agreed that a number of
written collateral – the challenges and opportunities and three
questions documents would be taken to the conference.
During this item, members were updated with planning
for the Pride Festival.

The Rainbow Communities

a) confirmed
arrangements for the panel’s presentation at the Government and
Partners Rainbow Conference to be held at Jet Park Auckland Airport Hotel and
Conference Centre on 8-9 November 2018.

Liaison Councillor's Update

Members' update
|
|
|
Members gave updates as follows:
·
Mark advised that funding is being assessed for the Pride
Centre feasibility study.
·
Lexie encouraged people to check in with friends and whanau who
are in our diverse community to make sure they are OK.
·
Audrey advised that they have been appointed to the steering
committee of ANZSSA. ANZSSA is Australia and New Zealand Student
Services Association which represents 47 universities across New Zealand and
Australia. The steering committee will progress Rainbow visibility,
support and initiatives.
·
Moira advised that the had attended an event at Government
House for suffrage with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and has been talking
to the organisers of a conference which will be held in Wellington on how
council could participate.
·
A meeting will be held to further discuss participation at the
Pride Festival (John, Audrey and Moira).
·
Members paid tribute to Austin Kim, Principal Advisor –
Panels.

the update about upcoming events and issues impacting rainbow communities
b) thanked
Austin Kim for his work with the panel and wished him well for his new role.
