Safe Communities Accreditation for Auckland: Endorsement of Application

 

Cr D Newman entered the meeting at 9.41am

Michael Mills, Community Engagement Advisor, Safe Communities Foundation of New Zealand and Jacqui Whittaker, District Prevention Manager, Auckland City District, NZ Police were present and provided a powerpoint presentation.

A copy has been attached to the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson E Collins, seconded by Chairperson C Casey:  

That the Community Development and Safety Committee:

a)         endorse the application (Attachment A to the agenda report) for Auckland Safe Communities accreditation, for submission to the Safe Communities Foundation of New Zealand.

b)        delegate the chair and deputy chair to make minor amendments to the application.

c)         thank Michael Mills, Community Engagement Advisor, Safe Communities Foundation of New Zealand and Jacqui Whittaker, District Prevention Manager, Auckland City District, NZ Police for their presentation and attendance.

Funding options for the Farmers Santa Parade

 

Pam Glaser, Auckland Children’s Christmas Parade Trust was in attendance to address the meeting regarding the funding options for the Farmers Santa parade.

 

Note    changes to the motion adding new clauses b), c), d) and e) was made with agreement of the meeting.

Resolution number COM/2019/6

MOVED by Chairperson C Casey, seconded by Cr W Walker:  

That the Community Development and Safety Committee:

a)         receive the verbal update on Auckland Council’s financial support for the annual Farmers Santa parade.

b)        acknowledge the partnership between the Auckland Children’s Christmas Parade Trust and the people of Auckland, in providing this event continuously for the last 85 years.

c)         request ATEED to review their decision to cease funding the Farmers Santa parade and consider applying funds budgeted for the visitor attraction and major events to the parade.

d)        report their decision back to the Community Development and Safety Committee on 21 March 2019.

e)         request staff to develop options to provide funding to the Farmers Santa parade and report back to the Community Development and Safety Committee by 21 March 2019.
