Chairperson Saffron Toms opened the meeting and welcomed those present.

The Chair acknowledged the Christchurch terror attack on 15 March 2019.

The chair acknowledged the tragic passing of her nephew Felix Murray who had a high interest in sustainability matters..

9          Public Forum

9.1

Public Forum - Ian Wedding - Manukau harbour mangroves

 

Ian Wedding attended to speak about concerns regarding the issue of sewage going into the Manukau Harbour. Mr Wedding spoke to a number of comparative aerial photographs available through Council’s GIS mapping tool with respect to matters of the increase of mangroves in the inner northern Manukau between 1959 and 2017.

a)         thank Ian Wedding for his presentation regarding the issue of sewage and sediment going into the Manukau Harbour.

10        Extraordinary Business

There was no extraordinary business.

Elected members update

 

Member C Elliott – A update was provided on the Tamaki Estuary Environment Forum as a comparative group, noted the submissions to Watercare’s plan for discharge of stormwater and advocated for continued working with other local boards with shared interests.

Member D Holm – The Waikowhai Coastal Walkway, is a dual cycleway and pathway that when finished, will run from Onehunga along the coastline to Blockhouse Bay. Member Holm advised that the consent had been granted for Taylors Bay walkway extension stage with construction scheduled to get underway.

Member A Cole – Manukau Harbour Forum funded a Small Building Sites Demo event which was held at a building site in Pukekohe. The day’s focus was helping the building industry understand how it can manage its site and apply sediment controls, around 20 builders and contractors turned up. Interest in hosting another event closer to Pukekohe.

Member C Makoare – Attended Old Mangere Bridge Replacement Reference Group update. The bridge closed for safety reasons late last year. The new bridge will have space for pedestrians and cyclists to travel safely. NZTA is the delivery agent.

Member S Toms – Sea Week successful at WRLB, delivery of talks, community movies and a sand castle competition at Cornwallis. A lecture on birds at Arataki noted a big decline in sea bird population worldwide. WRLB funding greyface petrel research and local community involvement.
