6          Acknowledgements

 

·           Otara Samoan Methodist turned 50 years old on 4 May 2019. The Otara Samoan Methodist Church was established on 4 May 1969. Four families started the church, namely Rev. Pati Toso and family, Matamua Nimese and family, Kolisi and Fetaalooai, Fiu Uesile and Rosaline, and Seu Rosa Leota. The road on which the church stands has been named after the first reverend, Toso Lane. Today there are over 35 matafales (families). The Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board congratulates the Otara Samoan Methodist Church on reaching this important milestone.

·           Acknowledges and congratulates Dr Ashraf Choudhary for  being the recipient of the Pearl of Islands Foundation’s Public Service Award 2019. This award recognises      Dr Choudhary’s efforts towards supporting, promoting and initiating intercultural and/or interfaith dialogue in the public domain to help build a cohesive society through engagement, policies and political action.

Auckland Council’s Quarterly Performance Report: Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board for quarter three 2018/2019

 

A memo on the Additional budget required to enable expansion of Auckland Teaching Garden Trust site at Charntay Park was tabled at the meeting.

That the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board:

a)      receive the performance report for the financial quarter ending 31 March 2019.

b)      note recent staff update that the local board contribution towards the Poly-cycle recycling initiatives at Polyfest (resolution OP/2019/13, work programme item #3327) was not fully spent and that unspent budgets ($3,000) will be returned to ACE work programme item #997 for neighbourhood development capacity building initiatives.

c)      note that the underspend in line item #997 has been used to respond to the following emergent community needs in the last quarter:

          (i)  top up of $2,000 towards the Diversity Forum of 7 May 2019 to incorporate an inaugural Iftar dinner co-hosted with Pearl of Islands Foundation.

          (ii) contribution of $1,000 to facilitate an Ōtara community safety hui.

d)      note recent staff update that the budget for work programme line #143 on Event Partnership fund is underspent by $3,000 and confirm that this will be spent on the following projects identified at the local board workshop on 14 May 2019

          (i)    delivering cross-cultural workshops and temple visits for Papatoetoe Intermediate School students $1,500 (includes coordination, evaluation and reporting costs).

         (ii)   two capacity building workshops for community groups that have received local board funding $1,500.

e)      approve $6,100 of LDI capex to top up earlier allocation (OP/2018/215) for the construction of a high security fence around Charntay Park teaching gardens (#3336).

f)       transfer $10,000 from work programme item #2810 community response fund to work programme item #333 community grants.
