Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel: An Inclusive Future for Auckland

 

Mayor P Goff entered the meeting at 10.28am.

Mayor P Goff retired from the meeting at 11.00am.

IMSB Member G Wilcox left the meeting at 11.35am.

Cr J Watson left the meeting at 11.30pm.

Cr J Watson returned to the meeting at 12.00pm.

 

Sunil Kaushal, Chairperson of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel introduced Anjum Rahman of the Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand.

A PowerPoint presentation from Anjum Rahman was provided at the meeting.  A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

Sunil Kaushal introduced the Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Minister for Ethnic Communities and Member of Parliament for Mt Roskill, Michael Wood.

Sunil Kaushal introduced Jade Tang-Taylor, Deputy Chair of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel.

That the Community Development and Safety Committee:

a)      thank the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel and presenters for their work in putting together this session and assisting the committee in understanding the subject.

b)      note the update from the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel and in particular the launch of the website.

Arts, Community and Events update  -  creating inclusive and safe communities

 

The meeting adjourned at 12.00pm due to a fire alarm and reconvened at 12.18pm.

IMSB Member D Kirkwood, Cr W Walker, Cr Sir J Walker were not present.  

 

IMSB Member G Wilcox returned to the meeting.

 

Sunil Kaushal, Chairperson of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel, retired from the meeting at 12.19pm.

 

A PowerPoint presentation relating to An Inclusive Auckland, was provided at the meeting. 

 

A PowerPoint presentation relating to Arts, Community and Events update  -  creating inclusive and safe communities, was provided at the meeting.

That the Community Development and Safety Committee:

a)      receive the high-level presentation from staff in relation to the policy work and strategic initiatives council is doing to ensure Auckland is an inclusive city.

b)      note that this information assists the committee in understanding the issues important to diverse communities living and working in Tamaki Makaurau.
