1          Apologies

  

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)         accepted the apology from Member S Andrews, Member K Buissink, Member S Farik, Member A Feau, Member K Hoeflich, Member S Rawiri and Member N Tal Alfassi Berman for absence, and Cr E Collins for lateness.

There were no declarations of interest.

 

 

 

3          Confirmation of Minutes

 

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)         confirmed the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 8 April 2019 as a true and correct record.

 

 

 

 

4          Additional Items

 

There was no concideration of Additional Items.

Public Input: Howick Youth Council - public transport in East Auckland

 

A PowerPoint presentation was provided. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

 

 

Member J Downs joined the meeting at 5.48pm.

 

 

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      received the public input from Howick Youth Council about public transport in East Auckland, and thank them for attending.

 

Note: the following topics were discussed:

·      The Howick Youth Council survey showed that over 70% youth were supportive of a T2 lane.

·      Frequency of bus routes.

·      Youth as a large stakeholder are not represented equally.

·      Cost of public transport.

·      Farebox and the implications for youth.

 

Note: The Chair invited members of the public to introduce themselves.

Boopise (Claudia) Maran addressed the panel on environmental issues.

I Am Auckland - implementation and evaluation update

 

A PowerPoint presentation was provided. A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

 

 

Cr E Collins joined the meeting at 6.10pm.

 

 

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      noted an Implementation Plan and Evaluation Framework have been developed to support the delivery of I am Auckland.

 

Note: the following topics were discussed:

 

·      Youth population growth

·      The strategy for completing goals in support of youth

·      How targets set and implemented

·      Case study development designed with  the panell

Auckland Council Youth Empowerment Team update

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      received the update regarding the Youth Empowerment team’s work.

 

Note: the following topics were discussed:

 

·      Youth improvement strategies to make Auckland great for youth.

·      Support communitiees to take action to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harm.

·      Aligning the work of Auckland Council departments, local boards, communities, I am Auckland, Lifewise and national programmes.

·      Youth engagement.

·      Resources and direction going forward.

Te Mana Rangatahi update

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      noted the mahi of Te Mana Rangatahi.

b)      recommended ideas for engaging with young people across Tāmaki Makaurau in the ongoing development of the innovation waka.

·      How to improve and develop the framework for action against climate change.

·      Future frameworks and plans.

Youth Advisory Panel members' updates

 

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      noted the panel members’ updates.

 

Notes: the panel discussed the following updates:

·      planning for the second half of the year.

·      difficulties with fares and forms of transport.

·      update on homelessness.

Liaison councillor's update

 

Member L Pearson retired from the meeting at 7.31pm.

 

 

The Youth Advisory Panel:

a)      noted the update from the liaison councillor, Fa’anana Efeso Collins.

 

Note: the following topics were discussed:

·      emergency declaration on climate change.

·      encouraging diversity at council.

·      youth voting.

·      public transport and Farebox.

·      housing for youth.

·      US youth programme.
