            Chairperson Greg Presland opened the meeting and welcomed those present.

Members were reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

Mike Stock attended to address the meeting regarding the Titirangi Painters’ Winter Exhibition.

Michael Duggen attended to address the meeting regarding Titirangi chicken issue and Auckland Council’s consent compliance process.

Consideration of Chicken Management Options & Rodent Control Activity - Titirangi Village

 

Glenn Boyd, Relationship Manager Henderson-Massey Waitakere Ranges Whau, was in attendance to speak to this report.

 

A full copy of Attachment A (Community Deputation - May 2019 - Waitakere Ranges - Chickens and Rats) is attached due to an inadvertent error when the Agenda was issued.  A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

 

Resolution number WTK/2019/96

MOVED by Member S Coney, seconded by Member K Turner:  

That the Waitākere Ranges Local Board:

a)      approve option one ‘the removal of all wild chickens from the Titirangi Village and surrounding areas’ and note that this approach will focus on capture and rehoming with culling as a secondary option.

b)      request staff to identify local board LDI funding to manage the wild chicken population in the 2019/2020 financial year and delegate final approval of this investment to the Chairperson G Presland and Deputy Chair, Saffron Toms

c)      note the requirement of an integrated communications plan to educate and inform the local community

d)      request staff to investigate options to enable members of the general public to be involved in the rehoming of captured chickens.

e)      note the additional activity to control the rat population on local assets

f)       continue to support community pest control, as appropriate, through existing mechanisms such as advocacy and local board community funding.

g)      note the ongoing requirement for monitoring and management and that further advice will be provided to the local board as part of the 2020/2021 work programme.

h)      thank staff for their work in presenting this report.

Pathways to Preparedness: A Planning Framework for Recovery

 

Glenn Boyd, Relationship Manager Henderson-Massey Waitakere Ranges Whau, was in attendance to speak to this report.

 

A copy of the draft Pathways to Preparedness: A Planning Framework for Recovery dated February 2019 is attached.  A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.
