Resolution number MR/2020/151

MOVED by Chairperson J Allan, seconded by Member A Candy:

That the Manurewa Local Board:

a)      provide feedback on the Resource Recovery Network Strategy update (Attachment A of the agenda report):

i)          support the proposed expansion of the current strategy from 12 community recycling centres in total to 23 facilities by 2031, including nine additional community recycling centres and two resource recovery parks

ii)         request that priority be given to locating one or more of the additional community recycling centres in either Manurewa or Takanini at the earliest opportunity, for the following reasons:

A)        Manurewa is one of the largest population centres in south Auckland

B)        housing intensification in the area is increasing, and this will place increased pressure on waste services

C)        most of our residents do not have the ability to transport large loads of waste to existing recycling centres

iii)       request that one of the resource recovery parks be located in Wiri, as this is one of the largest industrial areas in New Zealand

b)      note that local board feedback will be included in a report to Environment and Climate Change Committee in November 2020 seeking adoption of the updated Resource Recovery Network Strategy.
