Resolution number WTK/2020/142 MOVED by Member M Clayton, seconded by Member S Coney: That the Waitākere Ranges Local Board: a) receive the Auckland Transport November 2020 monthly update report. b) thank Auckland Transport for its recent release of an interactive map showing the location of serious crashes across Auckland over the past five years (2015-2020), including many in the Waitākere Ranges area. c) recommend the Governing Body and Auckland Transport commit to accelerating investment in transport safety through the review of the 10-year budget and associated Regional Land Transport Plan to achieve the ‘Vision Zero’ goal (no deaths or serious injuries in our transport system by 2050), as increasing safety for walking and cycling needs to be a high priority. d) ask that Auckland Transport commit to funding and delivering safety projects put on hold in the Waitākere Ranges area through the emergency budget changes, in particular the two pedestrian crossings in Glengarry Road and pedestrian crossings around Konini School. e) note there have been at least eight serious crashes, including one fatal crash, in Glengarry Road over the past five years and ask that Auckland Transport urgently investigate and report back to the local board on the range of options (big and small) for improving road safety in Glengarry Road, as the street design is outdated, does not reflect its current use, and needs to be modernised to make it safe. f) highlights the serious concerns in the community – shared by the local board – about the safety of several roads in the Waitākere Ranges area including Candia Road, Shaw Road and Piha Road. A safety assessment and plan of action is urgently needed. g) note that at the Board’s May 2020 meeting it was advised “there is currently $1,505,453 left in the Board’s Local Board Transport Capital Fund (LBTCF) from the previous political term. The amount allocated for 2019 – 2022 is $2,019,339. A total of $3,524,792 is available.” |
