Community benefits

Identified community outcomes:

The members of the club will have increased comfort levels when they are using the rescue craft (dinghy). They will be able to ask for extra assistance if required.

Also the general public using the Westhaven boardwalks will feel comfortable when the rescue dinghy leaves the pontoon if they can hear that the shore team is in constant communication with the rescue dinghy.

Alignment with local board priorities:

·      Encourage access to and participation in local events and arts activities

We are looking to increase our health and safety capabilities by ensuring all those who are on the rescue craft are also in radio contact with the shore based team. This will increase the new members level of comfort and encourage more people to come radio sailing. Also being on the Westhaven boardwalk with many people passing by, increased safety equipment, reassures the public.

Alignment with local board priorities:

·      Encourage access to and participation in local events and arts activities

Hanukkah in the Bays is a free public family event so everyone around Auckland has access to this local event. It brings people from all walks of life together to celebrate and appreciate the Jewish festival of lights, Hanukkah. The event includes music, dancing, and arts & crafts.  It is a cross-community event  and allows the Jewish & Israeli community to share their customs and traditions with people of other faiths.  It is the major event of the year for the Jewish community. Community benefits

Identified community outcomes:

We believe for our performers, this can be a chance to be involved in the community and a great way to revive from any cancelations they have been discouraged from earlier in the year. Audiences who do not have the opportunity in their daily lives to experience live music and performances can have the chance to enjoy it in open space.

Alignment with local board priorities:

·      Provide spaces and places that enable our diverse communities to connect, and feel welcome

Our aspiration is to bring positive energy to our community in our dark times. This will be achieved through various groups from diverse cultures to perform alongside together. We believe this can portrait the ideal multicultural environment of New Zealand. Also as our event is proposed in a open space, people who may not experience live performances in their daily lives can be given the chance to enjoy. As our community has gone through a isolated lonesome period, we feel the need to comfort through art and culture. The fortunateness Of New Zealand being able to gather and connect in the pandemics of the world can be fully benefitted through our event.

Additional information to support the application:

Our event is a non profitable event which puts priorities on the purpose of the event. The success of this event will be determined by the performers. Whether it has given them a chance to express their culture and passion. The amount of audiences is significant, but not prioritised more than the meaning of this event and giving positive cheer ups.

Community benefits

Identified community outcomes:

Bring our diverse communities together; create a better sense of place in Station Square; help enhance the public amenity and promote the Square in a more positive way

Alignment with local board priorities:

·      Encourage access to and participation in local events and arts activities

We wish to manage and activate the council-owned Station Square shops (named Newmarket Station Studio 1 & 2) and oversee a range of events in both sites. As part of our ongoing COVID-19 response, we would like to run an ongoing series of events in both shops. The events will likely have an arts focus with the primary focus of bringing people, our communities, together. This will help increase foot traffic into the Station Square area.

Project: Sustainable Urban Living Workshops

Location:

Jubilee Building, 545 Parnell Road, Parnell. 1052

Summary:

The Sustainable Urban Living Workshops are a series of standalone workshops on a range of topics related to low-carbon, zero-waste living. The workshops are free and run alongside the Saturday morning Parnell Farmers' Market. With a focus on empowering the Waitemata Community to consider and care for their environment, a sense of ownership for the local area is fostered.

Community benefits

Identified community outcomes:

To see an engaged community become equipped with the knowledge to make more informed sustainable living choices.

The skills learned from the workshops can become a part of this behaviour change and people will have the confidence to put them to use at home.

Social cohesion would result from bringing different people in the local Waitemata community together to take part in shared learning. As seen from previous workshops, new friendships are made, stories exchanged and connections renewed.

A reduced carbon footprint of those who participate in the workshops and hopefully beyond as the learning spreads to their family, friends and colleagues. This in turn supports the Waitemata Local Board's vision for a low-carbon community and waste is minimised as we work towards zero waste to landfill by 2040.

Alignment with local board priorities:

·      People have adopted low carbon lifestyles and live sustainably

The Sustainable Urban Living Workshops cover many aspects of low-carbon living that can be adopted by the community. The workshops aim to educate and inform people about ways to reduce their carbon output, following simple but innovative sustainability initiatives that may not have been considered previously.
The Parnell Community Trust provide the space and opportunity for local groups to lead workshops on sustainable living promotion. The objective is to offer a range of practical, fun and creative actions for reducing, reusing and recycling waste in the everyday household and urban garden.
