Resolution number MO/2020/186 MOVED by Chairperson L Sosene, seconded by Deputy Chairperson W Togiamua: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) confirm the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Wednesday, 18 November 2020, including the confidential section and the extraordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Wednesday, 2 December 2020, as true and correct.

There were no leaves of absence.
· Rev Dr Liufau Vailea Saulala passed away on Thursday, 19 November, 2020. He was the President of Tokaikolo ‘ia Kalaisi church, 148 Coronation Road Mangere Bridge, one of the biggest churches in Tonga. Dr Saulala’s most significant contribution to Tonga, was education, sport, Christian education and church. He established Lavengamalie School in 2004 from form 1 to 6. Lavengamalie is also known for its excellent performance in sports. A man who was always for king and country. He is survived by 5 sons and 1 daughter.
· Better Life Fitness celebrating their 5 year anniversary in Otahuhu.
· The passing of Maugafa Logoiai Tofa Tuia – operated a barbershop in Otahuhu “Fale otiulu” for the past 20 years and a beloved member of Donnell Avenue.
· Pacific Islands Law Students Association – end of year dinner and student achievements.
· The Cause Collective – Imrie Avenue and community park activation.
· Thanks to the Ōtāhuhu Business Association – 2021 Chair Raj Lal, town manager Richette Rodger and all the team – for a marvellous Christmas Carnival last Saturday. This was a new model of Christmas event for the area and was extremely successful.
· Moana Pasifika Rugby Team who were based in Mangere before departing to Hamilton in their historical match vs the Maori All Blacks – local stakeholder’s were involved in the team’s preparation including the Manukau Rovers Rugby Club, Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club and Moana Nui a Kiwa Leisure Centre.
· Anglican Trust for Women & Children for a successful Family Fun Day on 27 November.
· Mangere Bridge Business Association in organising another successful Christmas Parade on 3 December.
· The Cause Collective for hosting the Sports Leaders Breakfast Fono and for it’s contribution at the Pasifika Aotearoa Cup where they introduced and displayed a traditional game from the island of Niue to those in attendance.
· Bereavement acknowledging Rev Dr Liufau Saulala recently passed, Academic Educator and leader, founder and President of Tokaikolo Church in Mangere Bridge, 25 years, we acknowledge his work in the Tongan community and Education field, as founder of the Christ University Vice Chancellor strong Christian values pass on our condolences to his immediate family and wider Tongan community.
· Schools Graduation ceremonies and to all students who have completed the school year congratulations on all the hard work for students and their families Teachers and School Management and Principals as we finish this week, here’s to a very challenging year Covid19 and the key health messages carry on.
· Community Events around the Motu I have been able to attend some, CAB 50th celebration Mt Eden wonderful to celebrate CAB Mangere-Otahuhu-Papatoetoe have held AGM recently report received. Auckland Council and ACABx provide funding as other non-profit organisations. Top 10 categories legal services, citizenship and immigration relationships budgeting advice employment and law enforcement still high. Highlight Infographic digital exclusion 4,379 Clients seen over a 3- month period 49% 3 month period ranging from 50-59 years, 60-69 years, 70-79 years LARGE GROUP who are missing out on vital services. 37% pasifika and Maori clients experiencing digital exclusion.
· AGM’s BIDS acknowledge ongoing work of them recently attended Mangere East and Mangere Bridge monthly issues being attended to. Thank you to Mangere Bridge for organising Santa Parade MB last week thousands of families attended good time. BIDS Otahuhu team smaller crowd but still hundreds attended the Otahuhu Christmas Carnival well done for putting these events on for our families. Mangere Bridge community will be organising a community meeting of the feedback received by Residents unhappy with the new Cycle Lanes proposal through Coronation Mangere Bridge. There have been over 600 replies on social media I have requested AT project team to be present to listen to the comments and replies of the Mangere Bridge Residents.
· Do Good Feel Good via Cause Collective showcased their massive Production - Congratulations on their 5 years and wonderful occasion for the families and community ‘We are One We are Many’ production.
· Manukau United for their end of year event have had changes to the Manukau AFC welcome the new president young Sosaia a local who is an engineer and keen soccer player. Acknowledge Mangere Soccer club for their successful tournaments run this year.
· Mangere Arts Centre has turned 10 and the production of Mac’nificent will be showcase next Friday as a tribute to the last successful 10 years! With over 200,000 people inspired 800 theatre productions and 80 art exhibitions it is definitely on the ARTS community radar who punches well above its weight small community facility. Next week’s best of the best performers will grace MAC stage including Tone6 SaintzUp SauESiva cast of Wizard of OH and Sinarella! Not to be missed, Huge congratulations!

Resolution number MO/2020/196 MOVED by Chairperson L Sosene, seconded by Deputy Chairperson W Togiamua: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) adopt the Māngere-Ōtahuhu Local Board Age-friendly Plan as provided in Attachment A to this agenda report b) nominate Members O’Brien and Toleafoa (as alternate topic area leads for the seniors portfolio), along with the Chair to work with Community Empowerment Unit staff to develop opportunities/initiatives for implementing aspects of the plan in the 2020/21 financial year and present these to the board no later than March 2021
c) request the Community Empowerment Unit share the Age Friendly Plan with departments (and CCOs) who have contributed to the plan and request that they prepare and propose options to implement the plan as part of the board’s 2021/22 work programme development. |
