Tāmaki Tauawhi Kaumātua - Age-friendly Auckland Action Plan

Resolution number WHK/2021/99

MOVED by Member R Tucker, seconded by Member B Upchurch:

That the Waiheke Local Board:

a)      note and receive the report.

b)        provide the following feedback on the Tāmaki Tauawhi Kaumātua - Age-friendly Auckland Action Plan:

                i.      note Waiheke’s population is older, with 21% of population are already over 65 years and the Age-friendly Plan recognises there will be difficulty at the regional projected growth figure of 19% by 2043.

ii.      note hardship in our vulnerable aged population is a key area of advocacy for the board, particularly relating to housing affordability, elder care and accessibility.

iii.      housing affordability and scarcity of suitable and healthy elder accommodation including rentals and aged care facilities are critical current issues for Waiheke’s older population and the report should address the levers by which these issues will be addressed.

iv.      suggest the issue of food affordability and security be addressed within the plan as this can be an area of concern for our elderly on fixed incomes.

               v.      note maintenance of the Gold Card subsidy after 3pm is critical for the aged demographic across the region, and is a council-based decision.

vi.      suggest the following additions within the Domain Action Table which relate directly to the 2020 Waiheke Local Board Plan:

Resolution number WHK/2021/101

MOVED by Member R Tucker, seconded by Member P Walden:

That the Waiheke Local Board:

a)      provide the following feedback on the draft Charter:

              i.        endorse the use of Auckland Foundation as an appropriate fund administrator.

ii.        confirm that the local board see that it is appropriate for the Local Board Chair in full consultation with the local board to take up the offering to be involved in Advisory Committee appointments as outlined in the Charter.

iii.        note should the Local Board Chair in consultation with the local board not be able to make the Advisory Committee appointment from short listed persons presented (as outlined in current draft Charter process)  then the Auckland Foundation should make the appointment and not the Settlor and should this amendment not be made to the Charter, the local board would withdraw its support and involvement.

iv.        that the Advisory Committee should include mana whenua representation.

            v.        that given the purpose of the trust fund is maritime education for the benefit of Waiheke residents and mana whenua, that swimming skills be added to the example list in section 5a.

vi.        that specific consideration be given to growing the trust fund through active philanthropy and communicating the opportunity to marina berth holders.

vii.        that the grant availability and recipients is communicated through Waiheke media.
