6          Acknowledgements

Member Dr Ofa Dewes acknowledged on behalf of the board

In remembrance of Marlene June Foster (nee D’Aubney), who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 21September 2021, aged 90. Marlene and her late husband Harley, were faithful members of the Wesley Methodist Church, Kolmar Rd, Papatoetoe. Marlene is fondly remembered for her numerous services to community through the church some of which included Communicare, women’s fellowship, annual fairs and Boys Brigade programmes. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in their bereavement.

Covid 19 Pandemic

In appreciation of all the services and support that continues to be provided during the Auckland lockdown restrictions, and noting the relentless nature of these services. In particular I would like to mention the professionalism that Max MacDermid and his team at New World Papatoetoe provide to ensure that our grocery needs are met despite being identified as a place of interest during recent Covid-19 outbreak, Middlemore hospital staff, and all the Covid-19 frontline workers and those working behind the scenes such as contact tracers whom we don’t often hear about. Also working behind the scenes are the many parents and caregivers who are doing their best to supervise and help their children with their school work. As well I would like to acknowledge our local communities for their contribution to the national vaxathon one-day event on Saturday 16 October 2021 and enabling NZ to achieve in excess of its national target with >130,000 vaccinations.

With thanks to Auckland Council, Councillors Filipaina, Collins and Bartley for their support for vaccination events and especially with use of facilities at Mangere Centre Park for the Fiji and Rotuma vaccination drive-through on 7-9 October and the Tongan Health Society Langimalie Clinic Fleming St event in Onehunga for the Super Saturday Vaxathon event on 16 October 2021.

Member Robertson acknowledged on behalf of the board:

The ‘Gas Franchise’ who offered a special discount for petrol on both Saturday and Sunday in support of the Vaxathon encouraging locals to be vaccinated.
