Deputy Chairperson L Coles opened the hui and welcomed everyone in attendance. Member V Toki led the meeting in karakia.

The Aotea Great Barrier Island’s “7 Seas Marine Ecology Programme” is a finalist in the Schools/Youth Section of the Nga Tohu Taiao a te Koromatua/ The Mayoral Conservation Awards 2021.

That the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board:

a)          congratulate the Aotea Great Barrier Island’s “7 Seas Marine Ecology Programme” organised by the Sea Education Aotea Charitable Trust for being a finalist in the Nga Tohu Taiao a te Koromatua/ The Mayoral Conservation Awards 2021.

Allocation of Local Board Transport Capital Fund

That the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board:

a)      receive the Allocation of Local Board Transport Capital Fund report November 2021.

b)      approve expenditure of the Local Board Transport Capital Fund as follows (based on rough order costs):

·   $350,000 towards road seal extension projects on Kawa and Motairehe Roads

·   $50,000 towards installation of a Locky-Dock EV bike charging station in Port Fitzroy.

a)          receive the report on the Draft Contributions Policy 2021.

b)         disagree with the proposal that developers pay their contributions before resource consents have been approved.

National Emissions Reduction Plan Discussion Document – draft council submission

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson L Coles, seconded by Member S Daly:  

That the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board:

a)      support Auckland Council’s comprehensive draft submission to the National Emissions Reduction Plan in particular:

i)     the proposal to create an economy for carbon reduction locally by regenerating forests and sequestering carbon in NZ’s ecosystems including coastal blue carbon sinks, and

ii)    the recommendation of a futures (foresight) approach to ensure we are future-proofing solutions for generations.

b)      note a growing concern for the lack of monitoring and mitigation of data storage emissions.

c)      thank Auckland Council staff for their excellent work preparing the National Emissions Reduction Plan submission on behalf of council.

Submission on a proposed new national waste strategy and associated waste legislation

 

The board’s feedback on the proposed new national waste strategy and associated waste legislation was tabled. A copy of the tabled document has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

That the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board:

a)         approve the tabled feedback to the Government’s proposed new waste strategy and proposed changes to waste legislation for inclusion in an Auckland Council submission, noting that feedback is to be appended.
