Local board feedback on the strategic direction of Auckland's Future Development Strategy |
|
Resolution number GBI/2022/79 MOVED by Chairperson I Fordham, seconded by Member P O'Shea: That the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board: a) provide the following feedback on the strategic direction for the Future Development Strategy: i) support updating the Future Development Strategy to provide an increased focus on hapū and iwi values and aspirations, climate change mitigation, and empowerment of local resilience. ii) note that for Aotea / Great Barrier as an island based local board area issues of rising sea levels and rainfall events are significantly impactful and consideration of infrastructure requirements and upgrades need to be given to non-urban areas such as the motu and rural hinterlands. iii) note that approximately forty per cent of the island’s roads are unsealed and consideration is needed for further investments to improve access, safety and equity of provision for the motu. iv) strongly suggest that mobile phone and internet connectivity be specifically considered within scope when reviewing the Future Development Strategy. There is an assumption that Auckland’s mobile phone and internet connectivity is sufficient to support civil defence, service efficiencies, and economic activity across Auckland, however this is not the experience for large parts of the region, and Auckland Council needs to support delivery for this type of infrastructure. v) suggest a review of stormwater open drainage and fish-friendly culvert practices, including any climate change adaption plans, for rural and island board areas. vi) consideration needs to be given to the provision of appropriate infrastructure to respond to peak visitor demands.
