Steve McDonald, Vice President of Waitākere Grey Power, addressed the local board  about the organisation’s activities. He thanked the members for their support of Grey Power.

a)      receive the report and thank Whau Ward Councillor, Tracy Mulholland.

Whau Urban Ngahere 10-Year Action Plan

 

Howell Davies, Principal Specialist – Urban Ngahere was in attendance to speak to the item

 

Resolution number WH/2022/88

MOVED by Deputy Chairperson F Amosa, seconded by Member J Rose:  

That the Whau Local Board:

a)      adopt the Whau Urban Ngahere 10-Year Action Plan as in Attachment A to the agenda report.

b)      request that Parks, Sport and Recreation staff review the Whau Urban Ngahere 10-Year Action Plan every three years and provide a report updating the local board on progress of delivery of the action plan.

c)      request that Parks, Sport and Recreation staff review the Whau Urban Ngahere Action Plan implementation work programme annually and provide a report to the Whau Local Board on the delivery of new tree plantings.

d)      delegate authority to the General Manager - Parks, Sport and Recreation, to make minor changes and amendments to the text and design of the Whau Urban Ngahere Action Plan 2022.

e)      thank Howell Davies, Principal Specialist – Urban Ngahere – for his work on this project and his attendance to speak to the item.

Auckland Council's Quarterly Performance Report: Whau Local Board for quarter four 2021/2022

 

Resolution number WH/2022/90

MOVED by Chairperson K Thomas, seconded by Member S Zhu:  

That the Whau Local Board:

a)      receive the performance report for quarter four ending 30 June 2022.

b)      note the financial performance report in Attachment B of the report will remain confidential until after the Auckland Council Group results for 2021/2022 are released to the New Zealand’s Exchange (NZX) which are expected to be made public on or about 29 August 2022.

Welcoming Communities – Te waharoa ki ngā hapori

That the Whau Local Board:

a)      request staff to complete an expression of interest on behalf of the local board to join the Welcoming Communities programme – Te waharoa ki ngā hapori.

b)      delegate to the Chair the approval of the local board's expression of interest by 30 September 2022, for submission to Immigration New Zealand.

Local board feedback on the proposed Auckland Climate Grant programme 2022/2023

 

Resolution number WH/2022/92

MOVED by Member J Rose, seconded by Deputy Chairperson F Amosa:  

That the Whau Local Board:

a)      welcome the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed Auckland Climate Grant programme 2022/2023.

b)        support the proposed programme and agree, generally, with the proposed purposes and criteria set out by staff.

c)         request that staff consider specifically including water resilience / water security within the climate action priority areas, noting that some of the most noticeable and alarming impacts of climate change will include more floods and more droughts.

d)        request that staff consider specifically including tree planting and preservation in urban areas of high intensification and in road corridors within the climate action priority areas, noting that increased urban ngahere can reduce heat, increase biodiversity, improve health outcomes and enhance the appeal of our streets for the purposes of low emissions transit such as walking and cycling.

e)         look forward to further advice on the progress of the programme.
