·       I acknowledge the ori Wardens, Principals of Southern Cross Campus, Communities Against Alcohol Harm, and other residents who appeared as objectors in the recent Alcohol Hearing. This was to oppose the application for the sale of alcohol at the Wickman Way Liquor Store, the Local Board also appeared to oppose and commends the community for standing up and voicing their concerns

·       Congratulations to Aiolupotea John Roache and the family of Roache Motors for reaching 35 years in Business, Roache Motors is based at Queen St, Ōtāhuhu

·       Congratulations to Ronise Teraitua of the Manukau Magpies club for being selected in the Kiwi Ferns tour to Australia.

·       Huge thanks to our community organisers of all the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Anzac Day services and the staff who supported them - to Murray and Lesley Guptill, Nita Ruru and Ōtāhuhu RSA, Māngere Bridge Anzac organising Committee, the Cook Island Anzac Service, the Niuean service, the Cook Island Service and the Matala Tongan Anzac Day.

·       Acknowledge all the staff and community members who immediately went on standby during the recent rains and local State of Emergency, to support any flooded residents and combat environmental issues, if needs be.

·       Congratulations to TS Gambia’s Lt Vikram Subramaniam on his Cadet Forces Long Service Medal.

·       Congratulations to all the TS Gambia awardees at the NA Navy Cadet BCT Prize Giving in April.

·       Thanks to Bike Auckland and to local bike enthusiasts for an excellent Bike Champions Forum Ōtāhuhu.

·       Acknowledge the closing of the exhibition Niue Heritage Journey In Aotearoa - Fenoga Tāoga Niue i Aotearoa at the Māngere Arts Centre Ngā Tohu o Uenuku this Saturday. However, this is not the end as there is considerable interest in having this exhibition tour in the North and South Islands; dates confirmed include Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, late 2023 to early 2024. Congratulations to Molima Molly Pihigia and Laagi Mama.

·       Congratulations to Sefuluai Bella Tamotu, Manager of our Ōtāhuhu Town Hall Community Centre, on the safe delivery of a baby boy.

·       Congratulations to the Stream Team and organisers of the very important Te Ara-rata Stream FLOOD INFO FORUM at the Māngere Arts Centre.

·       Congratulations and thanks to the community policing team in Ōtāhuhu, Acting Area Commander and the OBA for a very successful Coffee with a Cop in the town centre. Great to have an opportunity for locals to raise concerns directly and to feel more secure, knowing local frontline police in person.

·       Acknowledge and send best wishes for the Commemoration and Celebration of 144th Anniversary of Fiji Girmit on Saturday.

Implementation of the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Sport and Active Recreation Facilities Plan 2022/2023

 

Resolution number MO/2023/51

That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board:

a)      grant Māngere East Rugby League Football and Sports Club (Incorporated) $50,000 to support the development of a balcony as part of stage two of their facility development project at Walter Massey Park, 372R Massey Road, Māngere East

b)      grant Manukau City Association Football Club Incorporated $30,000 to support priority renewals and repairs to the external building fabric as identified in the 2021 Asset Advisory Group report, for the facility at Walter Massey Park, 394R Massey Road, Māngere East.

Endorsing Business Improvement District (BID) targeted rate grants for 2023/2024

That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board:

a)      recommends to the Governing Body the setting of the targeted rates for inclusion in the Annual Budget 2023/2024 for the following Business Improvement District (BID) programmes:

i)     $ 33,075 for Māngere Bridge BID

ii)    $ 6,100 for Māngere East BID  

iii)   $ 314,155 for Māngere Town Centre BID

iv)   $ 713,554 for Ōtāhuhu BID

v)   $ 87,425 for South Harbour BID.

Local Board views on Notices of Requirement for the Airport to Botany Bus Rapid Transit Project

 

Resolution number MO/2023/53

MOVED by Chairperson N Bakulich, seconded by Member P Peo:  

That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board:

a)         acknowledge that the majority of the area covered by the Notices of Requirement for the Airport to Botany Bus Rapid Transit Project are not within the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board boundary

b)         tautoko / supports the views of the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board and shares the concerns highlighted in that board’s submissions where it affects property values, construction disruption including construction noise and vibration effects, concerns about access, impacts on parking, and effects of stormwater and flooding risk

c)         tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that the improvements will help connect the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu’s transport projects including the cycling network, and provide more choices for communities to travel to the airport and Māngere-Ōtāhuhu’s business areas

d)         tautoko / support road designs and water catchment infrastructure to mitigate any negative consequences to the local Puhinui Craters, Colin Dale Reserve, Manukau Harbour and the wider ecological system to ensure these sensitive areas are protected

e)         tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that currently, the Puhinui Road airport area is only coping with the traffic congestion at peak times. The local board request the construction phase is managed, to avoid traffic congestion adversely impacting the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu roads near the airport.
