Resolution number MR/2023/64 MOVED by Chairperson G Murphy, seconded by Member R McLean: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) acknowledge the following newly contracted Black Ferns players: · Layla Sae · Grace Gago · Mererangi Paul · Lucy Jenkins · Rosie Kelly · Katelyn Vahaakolo We especially wish to congratulate ex Manurewa High School student Grace Gago on receiving a Black Ferns contract for 2023. Grace was part of their Championship Winning Girls 1st XV for her five years at Manurewa High School (2013 - 2017).
Grace is Piki Atu Ki Te Rangi in action, always working hard and putting in a multitude of effort and hard work day in, day out. Congratulations Grace, we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see you out there on the world stage. |

Resolution number MR/2023/65 MOVED by Chairperson G Murphy, seconded by Member H Andrew: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) acknowledge the very successful commemoration of Anzac Day 2023. There are many people who became involved in ensuring this service was reverent and worthy as Manurewa’s own were remembered. A joint review and planning team streamlined the service without compromise and the veterans and public have given very positive feedback. On behalf of the Joint Planning Team, we acknowledge: · Lt Col Grant McMillan (lead representative for Manurewa RSA) and Member Anne Candy lead representative for Manurewa Local Board) · The Veterans of Manurewa RSA for their attendance · Arena Williams, Manurewa Member of Parliament, Keynote Speaker · Councillors Daniel Newman and Angela Dalton for their attendance · Manurewa Local Board Members and Support Staff in attendance · Manurewa RSA Members in attendance · Clubs and Community Groups who paraded · Manurewa and neighbouring communities who attended · All Wreath Layers and representatives · Rev Craig Millar, the Lone Piper · George Allan, the Bugler · Suzie Rika, Manurewa Local Board’s Tuia Leadership Cadet for assistance · Kate Wysoczanski and Weymouth Sea Scouts for the Sausage Sizzle · Stormy and Ngahuia Hohepa for Fellowship Catering Manurewa Central School – the Kaitiaki of the Manurewa War Memorial site, especially: · Michelle Dibben, Principal · Jan Ene, Deputy Principal · Students who lay the Memorial Crosses prior to the day · Students who participated in the Service James Cook High School, especially: · Administrative support for the Planning Team and Programmes · Project Management for funding and resourcing · Cenotaph Cadets for guard patrol · Putaki Kapa Haka Roopu for Waiata Tautoko and Fellowship entertainment Last but not least, every dove as they soared skyward and connected the Wairua of all our brave servicemen named on our Cenotaph, as well as representing peace now and into the future. We are building Manurewa back, and Anzac Day is a vital element in that vision. It is hoped that more of our events will be in partnership with community as we move forward. |

Resolution number MR/2023/66 MOVED by Member J Allan, seconded by Member R McLean: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) acknowledge the passing of Susan Lee Moxon (Nee Hancock), who passed away suddenly on 1 May 2023. An active volunteer of Special Olympics Papakura, which also serves Manurewa, she will be missed with love, by the young athletes and their families. Loved wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend to so many. |

Resolution number MR/2023/67 MOVED by Chairperson G Murphy, seconded by Member A Candy: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) acknowledge the passing of Bruce Robertson and Ray Reardon. Bruce Robertson, passed away on 12 May 2023 aged 71. A former All Black great with 102 games including 34 Test matches, Bruce was known as “The Prince of Centres”. Bruce played 135 games for Counties Rugby Union and helped lead the side to their sole National Provincial Championship triumph in 1979 before retirement in 1982. The Manurewa Local Board extends sympathy to Nellie and his daughters Jackie, Natalie and Shannon and to his grandchildren. Ray Reardon, husband of the late June Reardon, passed away on 15 May 2023 aged 87. Ray was a ‘great Rewa man’ with Manurewa Rugby Football Club Life Membership. A former Māori All Black, Ray was a past president of the club, a Counties Rugby Union player and coach of multiple Counties championship winning teams. The Manurewa Local Board joins with the Manurewa Rugby Football Club in extending our sympathy to Ray’s children Jim, Russell, Terry and Jenni-Lee and to his grandchildren. |
