Te Tohu Maimoa recognises the contribution of people involved in the well-being of Companion Animals in New Zealand. The awards are held twice a year and nominations focus on achievements in the previous six months.

·       Fonua ‘Alaha Manonogi Kindergarten has opened in Ōtāhuhu - First dedicated Tongan Centre in the Auckland Kindergarten Association’s 115yr history

·       Sir Douglas Bader Intermediate - 2023 Auckland 10s Boys Champs

·       the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Mele Siuʻilikutapu Kalaniuvalu Fotofili who passed away in Auckland at age 75. Condolences to Her Royal Highness’s family and the people of Tonga.

·       Molley Pihigia and all the mamas past and present in the Falepipi He Mafolo Niuean Handcra group for sharing your beautiful creations

·       Krish Naidu, President of the Fiji Girmit Foundation of NZ for the 144th Fiji Girmit Anniversary

·       Māngere Ngahere team working in collaboration with Kainga Ora, Mana whenua Te Ahiwaru and Te Aakitai Waiohua, Māngere East Family services and Uru Whakaaro for the launch of Ngaa Hau O Māngere Ngahere Planting guide

·       Irene Tufuga and the staff at the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu libraries for the successful Samoan language week school’s debate event

·       Fatima Vaaga, Jacqueline Puna-Teaukura and the team at connected communities (Māngere community hub) for the “Celebrating Her” event.

·       Dr Barbara Disley, Sulutumu Vailoa Milo-Harris and the team at Emerge Aotearoa Trust for the successful Emerge Aotearoa Trust - Tagata Pasifika Success Celebration event

·       Nigel Denny (Te Akitai Waiohua) for the Pūkaki Crater & Urupa / Pūkaki Marae site visit that provided a deeper understanding of the history of the crater, the surrounding lands and mana whenua.

·       Local based marae participation at the Moko Research Symposium - Research and experiences - Te Puea, Mataatua, Papatuanuku kokiri & Makaurau with their innovative, achievements and practices.

·       Organisers and stall holders of the 275 celebrations on 27 May 2023, who organised a successful day that Māngere can be proud of. This day brought back several artists such as Tree Vaifale, Adaeze and Samson Squad. All whom acknowledge their Māngere roots and upbringing.

·       Māngere East Rugby League Football Club (RLFC) 60th Jubilee Committee - Peter Sykes, Byers Beazley, Moira Chan, Phillip Tasmania, Leslie Taylor, Kasey King and Valerie Lui. The Board attended celebrations alongside List MP Lemauga Lydia Sosene. We acknowledge their significant contribution not only to our community but to the representative arena both domestically and internationally. The Hawks has evolved beyond the purposes of a sporting club and has morphed into a pillar of the Māngere East community. The Māngere East Hawks are a brilliant microcosm of the Māngere community filled with natural talent, innovation, and growth. We congratulate them and wish them continued success in the current and future seasons.

·       The Chair Tauanu’u Nick Bakulich and members of our Local Board fronted the Governing Body and made our submissions (regarding the Annual Budget) on 17 May. Acknowledging the courage, advocacy and stoic stance the Board took on behalf of our community – opposing several controversial cuts and sales of our Council’s most profitable performing asset.

a)      whai / adopt the local content for the Annual Budget, which includes the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board Agreement 2023/2024, the message from the chair, and approved local board advocacy, tabled at the meeting

b)      whai / adopt a local fees and charges schedule for 2023/2024 provided as Attachment A of the agenda report
