6 Te Mihi | Acknowledgements
The Waiheke Local Board acknowledge the loss of the rangatahi on Aotea Great Barrier and the critical health status of the other rangatahi. Waiheke shares a unique and close relationship with Aotea Great Barrier as island communities in the Gulf. We recognise this is a tragic loss for their community, and we send our heartfelt condolences.
Additionally, the Waiheke Local Board acknowledge the great achievement of five local residents who were included on the King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours List 2023: Catriona McDonald Foster awarded Queen’s Service Medal for services to nursing, Michelle Hooper awarded Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her contribution to sport, Colin Jones awarded Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the dairy industry, Ngaio Lewis awarded Queen’s Service Medal for services to charitable fundraising and Charlotte Lockhart awarded Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and philanthropy. A warm congratulations to all.

Resolution number WHK/2023/67 MOVED by Chairperson C Handley, seconded by Member K Matthews: That the Waiheke Local Board: a) thank Nathan Musson, representative of the Waiheke Community Pool Society, for their attendance and presentation regarding a proposal to investigate potential development options for a Waiheke Community pool. b) endorse the WCPS using the allocated local board funding to include a review of the site adjacent to Donald Bruce Road between the two schools. c) note the Governing Body resolution from 2016 approving $1 million (debt funded at the rate of $100,000 per annum from LDI operating expenditure budget) towards the development of a Waiheke community swimming pool, and request confirmation that this resolution still stands.

Resolution number WHK/2023/76 MOVED by Chairperson C Handley, seconded by Deputy Chairperson B Ranson: That the Waiheke Local Board: a) note extreme concern regarding the current status of Caulerpa and its threat to the biodiversity and health of our ocean and supports the decision of the Hauraki Gulf Forum on this matter (resolution number HGF/2023/8). b) back the calls from the Ngāti Paoa Iwi Trust and other iwi and hapū, the Hauraki Gulf Forum, and community organisations, for a step change in New Zealand’s approach from containment to containment and eradication, with whole system engagement, and trials of hydraulic removal methods. c) urge the provision of Crown funding to mana whenua and community organisations for proactive underwater surveillance. d) support an urgent and thorough assessment of the likely economic, social, cultural and ecological impacts of the spread of Caulerpa. e) call for reconsideration of the current prohibition on impacted communities engaging in the active removal of Caulerpa. f) request publicly available mapping of known Caulerpa sites which is accurate and updated in a timely fashion. g) write to the Minister of Biosecurity, Biosecurity NZ and other relevant Ministers on the above. h) urgently seek the unanimous support for resolutions a) – g) from Auckland Council Local Boards and Auckland Council Governing Body, i) delegate to the Chair and Deputy Chair oversight of the follow-up on this issue to ensure that this is effectively taken up with the parties concerned.

Art Partners Interim Service and Funding Approach for 2023/2024 |

Resolution number WHK/2023/77 MOVED by Chairperson C Handley, seconded by Deputy Chairperson B Ranson: That the Waiheke Local Board: a) approve the full contractual payment covering FY 2023/2024 to the following arts partners: i) $11,952.09 to Artworks Theatre ii) $11,952.09 to Waiheke Community Art Gallery. b) approve topping-up both Artworks Theatre and Waiheke Community Art Gallery respectively funding by $8,047.91 from the 2023/24 Locally Driven Initiatives (LDI) budget of the Waiheke Local Board on the proviso that both of these organisations significantly reduce the number of grants and funding applications by this quantum over FY 2024. |

Resolution number WHK/2023/78 MOVED by Chairperson C Handley, seconded by Deputy Chairperson B Ranson: That the Waiheke Local Board: a) note the Waiheke Local Board Three-year Engagement Strategy 2023 (Attachment A). b) re-establishment of the Community Forum to be held 5:30pm - 7:00pm the second Wednesday of the month at the local board office. c) defer the consideration of the re-establishment of the Transport Forum following a debrief with 2022 Transport Forum members and local board members through the Community Forum. d) appoint local board member liaison roles to the following community groups as outlined in Appendix Two of the strategy: i) Community Networks Waiheke (CNW) – Member Matthews as board representative with Chair Handley as alternate. ii) Piritahi Marae – Chair Handley as board representative with Deputy Chair Ranson as alternate. iii) Electric Island – Chair Handley as board representative. |
