The Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board acknowledgements:
· acknowledge the remarkable achievement of the Manukau Rovers Club winning back-to-back premierships in Auckland Rugby’s most prestigious competition. They have managed to retain the Gallagher Shield in its 100th year and doing so in style by going undefeated and setting the highest points scored in a season in the history of the shield. Congratulations to Doug Sanft and his respective coaching staff, management, and players (Captain Savelio Ropati and the mercurial finisher Faletoi Peni). We are incredibly proud of the Manukau Rovers and its Premier and Premier Development teams for achieving the top prize in Auckland Rugby. Malo le saili malo ma le fa’aea pitonu’u
· congratulate Te Ahiwaru on their Ihu o Matao Tours which was launched this month. We would like to acknowledge the warm and brilliant launch of their tours as well as the selection of their new executive committee and co-chairs. We are proud of the materialisation of their dreams and aspirations as personified in the local tour’s initiative. We look forward to our community utilising this unique opportunity to learn more about the whenua and awa we’re privileged to call home
· a special acknowledgement to community stalwart and esteemed member of the legal fraternity Ali’imuamua Sandra Alofivae. A founder of the KAM law firm and principal commissioner of the Royal Commission into State Abuse Inquiry – we are proud to acknowledge the appointment of Ali’imuamua to the District Court Bench. Ali’imuamua has served the Māngere community extensively and is a current and active member of the Māngere PIPC Church
· acknowledge her colleague and former President of the Pacific Lawyers Association Tania Sharkey. She has been appointed to the Bench and is a proud Ōtāhuhu resident and community champion. Ali’imuamua and Sharkey will be two incredibly valuable additions to the District Court bench
· congratulations and huge thanks to Noel Robinson, “champion of South Auckland football”, who has received Life Membership of Northern Region Football for more than 5 decades of service to our South Auckland Clubs and football more generally
· congratulations Audrey Williams, Daniel Barthow, all the Manukau Beautification Trust (MBT) team and all the young designers for a fabulous Wearable Arts competition. The winners were notably fashionable with strong environmental and upcycling messages and themes
· congratulations Mez Aue MNZM & Coconut Wireless for an excellent 2-day South Auckland STEM conference & Expo
· congratulations Ōtāhuhu Leopards on winning the Jack Wright Cup
· congratulations to Ōtāhuhu College students and their carving and art tutors for a wonderful exhibition at Māngere Arts Centre Nga Tohu o Uenuku – good education programme running alongside and all pieces for sale – go and have a look!
· congratulations Emile Va’afusuaga on his NZRL Distinguished Service Award. He has been associated with the Hawks, the Leopards and the inaugural CML Board, founded the Leadership through Rugby League programme and has done much work in schools and supporting playgroups in clubs
· huge thanks to the Arts team and all others involved in remaking the oversized replica Lee Enfield No 1 Mk III rifle for the Ōtāhuhu WW1 Monument and installing it more safely after the last one was stolen
· congratulations to Raj Lal of Stonex Jewellers – his Roller Door design has won the silver medal for graffiti prevention at the 2023 Sign & Display Awards
· great work Troy Tu’ua and Sau E Siva Creatives – Māngere-grown Alatini 3 has been invited into town and will run at the SkyCity Theatre on 10 and 11 August – tickets selling fast
· acknowledging and thank you Losalio Milika Pusiaki for sharing her knowledge of Tongan Faiva, performance and Arts. Her journey through ancient Tongan cultural practices, dances and correct protocol poetry and Tongan songs. She was from Māngere. Her academy was one of Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board beneficiaries of grant and funding
· acknowledgement to the Māngere East Hawks under 18 Southern Hawks team for winning the 2023 ARL under 18s champions
· congratulations to Ōtāhuhu Rugby Club First Grade - Reuben O'Neil Cup winners
· congratulations to members of the Ōtāhuhu Softball Club who are members of the New Zealand Softball team participating in the World Cup, held in Italy
· congratulations to all our Māngere East Hawks girls teams that made it to the Auckland Rugby League Grand Finals next week:

Resolution number MO/2023/84 MOVED by Chairperson N Bakulich, seconded by Member M Kolo: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) whakaae / approve the 2023/2024 Customer and Community Services work programme and its associated budget (Attachment A to the agenda report) b) tono / request that management ensure the Customer and Community Services department provide regular and detailed accountability updates on its work programme items that are clear and concise, on action status and milestones (started, completed, or unachieved), to the local board to help with its decision-making role in the 23/24 financial year c) include the following initiative to the 2023/2024 work programme: i. Resolution number MO/2023/85 MOVED by Chairperson N Bakulich, seconded by Deputy Chairperson H Fatu Toleafoa: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) whiwhi / receive the council-controlled organisation update on the work programme (Apr-Jun 2023) and anticipated milestones and engagement approaches for Quarter One (Jul-Sep 2023) b) is concerned about the delay in Transport Capital Fund projects, with recent cost increases impacting local board projects (in light of the reduction of the Local Board Transport Capital Fund (LBTCF) to $7 million for the 21 local boards), and seek further clarification on the causes of delays and anticipated delivery timelines of capital projects c) include the following initiatives into the Auckland Transport engagement plan and report on these projects through the CCO engagement plan in a timely manner, i. Māngere Bridge causeway antisocial disruptions ii. trial free public transport delivered in Māngere-Ōtāhuhu iii. increasing local procurement – employ and train more Māori, Pasifika and low-income earners to exceed Auckland Transport’s 6% social procurement target iv. progress in planting more trees on the road corridor network v. regular data on Auckland Transport investment in, and the public’s usage of, public transport and the roading network by local board.
