Chairperson Sage welcomed those present and opened the meeting with a karakia.

Adoption of the Waitematā Local Board Plan 2023


Glenn Boyd, Local Area Manager, and Nick Palmisano, Local Board Advisor, were in attendance to speak to the report.


Resolution number WTM/2023/94

MOVED by Chairperson G Sage, seconded by Member R Northey:  

That the Waitematā Local Board:

a)      adopt the Waitematā Local Board Plan 2023 as set out in Attachment A of the agenda report, with the following amendments:

i)          amend text on page 23, to “Advancing the Western/Eastern Isthmus water quality improvement projects, including Hobson Bay, are of critical importance.”

ii)         amend initiative on page 11 and page 24 to “Continue to advocate for the expedited delivery of Western Isthmus and Eastern Isthmus water quality improvements that impact our waterways, catchments, beaches, and harbours.”

iii)       amend text on page 21, to “We will continue to… restore the mauri of our local waterways, such as Waitītiko / Meola Creek, Waipapa and Newmarket streams and those flowing into Cox’s Bay, Te Wai Ōrea / Western Springs, Meola Reef and Hobson Bay.”

iv)       amend initiative on page 28, to “Work with the community to investigate future options for Grey Lynn Library, Community Centre, and their services.”

v)         amend initiative on page 35, to “Work with Watercare and CCO partners to upgrade, deliver and maintain key infrastructure to adapt to climate impacts and maintain cleaner water, including Herne Bay wastewater connections and Pt Erin extension connections to the Central Interceptor and delivery of the Westhaven Seawall upgrade.”

vi)       amend initiative on page 36, to “Work with City Rail Link Limited… to ensure the new Te Waihorotiu, Karanga-a-Hape and Maungawhau stations…”

b)        delegate authority to the Chairperson of the Waitematā Local Board to approve any minor edits that may be necessary to the Waitematā Local Board Plan 2023 prior to publication.

c)         share the concerns of many submitters about the importance of good, consistent and safe street cleaning and footpath maintenance and will monitor performance in these important matters.
