Hauraki Gulf Forum

04 March 2024

 

 

 

Joshua Wetere from Tai-ranga-whenua, Waikato Regional Council’s iwi relationships team welcomed the Hauraki Gulf Forum with a Karakia and a Mihi Whakatau. Member Dean Ogilvie responded on behalf of the Forum.

 

Co-Chairperson Mayor Toby Adams welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Note:   The Co-Chairperson accorded precedence to Item 4.2 - Public Forum – Update from Legasea on mushy fleshed fish, at this time. Item 4.1 – Public Forum – Seabird smart fishing – review of summer campaign was considered after Item 8 – Supporting the takutai moana coastal and marine strategic priority.

Constituent Party Updates

 

A revised version of Attachment F - Aotea Caulerpa Update was tabled and a copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

Presentations from Fisheries NZ, Biosecurity New Zealand and Auckland Council were given in support of the item. Copies have been placed on the official minutes and are available on the Auckland Council website as minutes attachments.

Department of Conservation also provided a brief oral update on progress under Revitalising the Gulf.

a)      thank Waikato Regional Council, Hauraki District Council, Thames Coromandel District Council, Fisheries NZ & the Department of Conservation, and Auckland Council for their written reports

b)      thank Fisheries NZ, Department of Conservation, Biosecurity New Zealand and Auckland Council for their presentations

c)      note the report

d)      request Biosecurity New Zealand work with the Hauraki Gulf Forum, local government including local boards, mana whenua, and local communities in considering the application of Controlled Area Notices in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
